The DP World Tour returns to Scotland for the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, attracting a competitive field of the world's best golfers, including recent Ryder Cup winners and LIV Golf players. Who will emerge victorious at the Old Course come Sunday?

Ryan Fox returns to defend his title after a one-stroke victory over Alex Noren and Callum Shinkwin in 2022.

The players compete across three courses for the first three days: the Old Course St. Andrews, the Championship Course Carnoustie and Kingsbarns Golf Links. The final round will take place on the Old Course on Sunday.

Ryder Cup winners who will tee off on Thursday include Matt Fitzpatrick, Tommy Fleetwood and Robert MacIntyre, and past Major winners Louis Oosthuizen and Padraig Harrington.

These are our four selections that could win the title this weekend.

Tommy Fleetwood

Tommy Fleetwood has enjoyed an excellent run of form during the second half of the year on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour, placing 2nd at the RBC Canadian Open, T5 at the US Open, MC at the Travelers Championship, T6 at the Genesis Scottish Open and T10 at the Open Championship.

He then finished T3 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, T25 at the BMW Championship, T6 at the Tour Championship,6th at the BMW PGA Championship and scored the winning points for Team Europe at the Ryder Cup last weekend.

Other notable performances achieved by Fleetwood this season include finishing T4 at the CJ Cup, 20th at the Hero World Challenge, T20 at the Genesis Invitational, T3 at the Valspar Championship, T15 at the RBC Heritage, T5 at the Wells Fargo Championship and T18 at the PGA Championship.

The Englishman has compiled an impressive record at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, placing T5, T55, 5th, T2, T13, T15, T25, T2, T5, T7 and T22 in 2022.

Fleetwood has been playing consistently well and will fancy his chances to lift the trophy at the Old Course come Sunday.

Adrian Meronk

Adrian Meronk has been achieving consistent results on the DP Tour lately, placing T3 at the BMW International Open, T15 at the Betfred British Masters, MC at the Genesis Scottish Open, T23 at the Open Championship, T62 at the D+D Real Czech Masters, T13 at the Omega European Masters, T23 at the Horizon Irish Open and T28 at the BMW PGA Championship.

Other noteworthy results produced by Meronk this season include winning the ISPS Handa Australian Open and placing T10 at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, T4 at the Ras Al Khaimah Championship, T14 at the Honda Classic (PGA Tour), T17 at the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play (PGA Tour), T21 at the Korea Championship, victory at the DS Automobiles Italian Open and T5 at the KLM Dutch Open.

The 30-year-old Pole has made four appearances at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, finishing T42 in 2019, T2 in 2020, MC in 2021 and T22 in 2022.

Meronk has won twice this season and will look to add another trophy to his cabinet in Scotland this weekend.

Robert MacIntyre

Robert MacIntyre has not been at his best in recent starts on the DP World Tour, finishing T55 at the Omega European Masters, T45 at the BMW PGA Championship and MC at the Cazoo Open De France.

However, MacIntyre was in solid form from March to August, placing T7 at the Magical Kenya Open, T6 at the ISPS Handa Championship in Japan, T7 at the Korea Championship, MC at the PGA Championship, T14 at the Porsche European Open, MC at the Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed, T18 at the BMW International Open, T39 at the Betfred British Masters, T4 at the Made in HimmerLand and 2nd at the Genesis Scottish Open.

The Scotsman has featured four times at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, placing T26 in 2019, T6 in 2020, MC in 2021 and T20 in 2022.

MacIntyre went close to winning on home soil earlier this season and will start confidently after being part of Team Europe's Ryder Cup triumph.

Yannik Paul

Yannik Paul has been producing solid results on the DP World Tour since June, placing T3 at the Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed, T8 at the Betfred British Masters, T49 at the Made in HimmerLand, T25 at the Genesis Scottish Open and MC at the Open Championship.

He then finished T10 at the D+D Real Czech Masters, T20 at the Omega European Masters, T45 at the Horison Irish Open, T45 at the BMW PGA Championship and T6 at the Cazoo Open De France.

Additional highlights achieved by Paul this season include finishing 2nd at the Thailand Classic, 2nd at the Hero Indian Open, T6 at the ISPS Handa Championship in Japan and T23 at the Italian Open.

The German missed the cut at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship on debut in 2022.

Paul has had seven top-ten finishes in 2023 and has a chance to take home the winner's cheque in Scotland if he can replicate those performances.

Verdict

Fleetwood has been in top form and has claims for the title in Scotland this weekend.

Meronk has been thereabouts lately and can convert his recent displays into victory at the Old Course.

MacIntyre will have the Scottish fans behind him and offers an excellent each-way bet at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

Paul has threatened to win his second DP World Tour title in recent outings and should enter calculations.
