A competitive field of the world's best players have assembled in Sydney for the 106th edition of the Australian Open. Who will win this prestigious event come Sunday?

Adrian Meronk is back to defend his title after a five-stroke victory over Adam Scott in 2022.

The tournament will use The Australian Golf Club & Lakes Golf Club courses for the first two days and only The Australian Golf Club for the weekend.

Past and present champions of this event that will tee off on Thursday include Adrian Meronk, Matt Jones, Cameron Davis, Adam Scott, Geoff Ogilvy, John Senden, Aaron Baddeley, and Peter Lonard.

These are our four selections that could win this weekend.

Adam Scott

Adam Scott has been threatening to win another tournament lately by placing T7 at the Wyndham Championship, MC at the Horizon Irish Open, T7 at the BMW PGA Championship, MC at the Japan Open Golf Championship (Asian Tour), T41 at the ZOZO Championship, T5 at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship and 6th at the Fortinet Australian PGA Championship last weekend.

Additional highlights from Scott's year include finishing T21 at the Sony Open in Hawaii, T5 at the Wells Fargo Championship, T8 at the AT&T Byron Nelson, T9 at the Memorial Tournament, and T19 at the Travelers Championship.

The former Masters champion has an impressive record at this event, with results of victory in 2009, T32 in 2010, T4 in 2011, T14 in 2012, 2nd in 2013, 5th in 2014, T2 in 2015, T14 in 2016, MC in 2019 and 2nd in 2022.

Scott will fancy his chances to secure his second ISPS Handa Australian Open after recording four top-ten places in his last seven starts.

Joaquin Niemann

Joaquin Niemann played well at his maiden DP World Tour event last weekend, placing 5th overall at the Fortinet Australian PGA Championship.

Before that, Niemann had solid form on the LIV Golf Tour, placing T7 in Bedminster, T18 in Chicago and T9 in Jeddah.

Other notable results achieved by Niemann this year include finishing T10 at the PIF Saudi International, T5 at the International Series in Oman, T11 at Mayakoba, T8 in Singapore, T8 in Tulsa, T10 at Valderrama and T16 at the Masters.

The 25-year-old is debuting at the ISPS Handa Australian Open this weekend.

Niemann looked good in his previous tournament and will be challenging for the title at the Australian Golf Club this weekend if he can replicate that performance.

Marc Leishman

Marc Leishman has rediscovered his touch during his last seven tournaments on the LIV Golf Tour and DP World Tour, placing T2 in London, T32 in Greenbrier, T7 in Bedminster, T2 in Chicago, T29 in Jeddah and 3rd at the recent Fortinet Australian PGA Championship.

Before that, Leishman was in decent form, with his best results being T6 at the PIF Saudi International (Asian Tour), T15 at Mayakoba, T13 in Tucson and T16 in Singapore.

The 40-year-old veteran has a chequered record at this tournament, finishing T17 in 2010, MC in 2011, T42 in 2012, MC in 2015, T10 in 2019 and MC in 2022.

Leishman has been knocking hard and has every chance to win his maiden ISPS Handa Australian Open this weekend.

David Micheluzzi

David Micheluzzi had a tough time with his game on the DP World Tour and PGA Tour for a few months, however, he has recently regained his form and has been performing well again.

Micheluzzi placed T17 at the Made in HimmerLand, MC at the Open Championship, T14 at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, T2 at the Queensland PGA Championship (PGA Tour of Australia), victory at the Victorian PGA Championship (PGA Tour of Australia) and T18 at the Fortinet Australian PGA Championship last weekend.

The Australian golfer has had several noteworthy results on the PGA Tour of Australia this year, including finishing T2 at the TPS Victoria, MC at the TPS Murray River, 2nd at the Vic Open, victory at the TPS Sydney, T21 at the TPS Hunter Valley, T17 at the New Zealand Open, victory at the NSW Open, T4 at the National Tournament and T21 at the Korea Championship (DP World Tour).

The 27-year-old has made three appearances at the ISPS Handa Australian Open, placing T5 in 2018, T33 in 2019, and T10 in 2022.

Micheluzzi has been in great touch and could cause an upset victory in New South Wales.

Verdict

Scott comes into the ISPS Handa Australian Open in excellent touch and can win the title this weekend.

Niemann has produced excellent results lately and has a chance to lift the trophy in New South Wales come Sunday.

Leishman has the form to emerge as the winner in Sydney.

Micheluzzi can convert his consistent results into victory at the Australian Golf Club this weekend.
