A competitive field will gather at the Green Eagle Golf Courses this weekend to compete for the 41st edition of the European Open. Who will emerge victorious on Sunday and lift the trophy?

Tom McKibbin returns to defend his title after a two-stroke victory over Julien Guerrier, Maximilian Kieffer and Marcel Siem.

The players will tee off on the par-73 North Course, which, at 7,882 yards, is one of the longest challenges in professional golf.

These are our four selections that could win the title this weekend.

Tom McKibbin

Tom McKibbin struggled to find his game at the start of the new DP World Tour season, finishing T67 at the Fortinet Australian PGA Championship and T51 at the ISPS Handa Australian Open.

However, McKibbin did not take long to showcase his talent, placing T25 at the Dubai Invitational, T14 at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, T16 at the Ras Al Khaimah Championship, 4th at the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters, T12 at the SDC Championship and T9 at the Jonsson Workwear Open.

He was then MC at the Porsche Singapore Classic, T7 at the ISPS Handa Championship and T23 at the Volvo China Open in nine events.

The 21-year-old Englishman won on debut at the European Open in 2023.

McKibbin has been a model of consistency this season and will fancy his chances to win this tournament for the second consecutive year.

Richard Mansell

Richard Mansell reeled off seven consecutive top performances during the opening four months on the DP World Tour, placing T22 at the Fortinet Australian PGA Championship, T21 at the ISPS Handa Australian Open, T14 at the Dubai Invitational and T25 at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic.

He was then T9 at the Ras Al Khaimah Championship, T9 at the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters and T11 at the Porsche Singapore Classic.

Mansell withdrew from the Hero Indian Open in his next start and missed the cut at the ISPS Handa Championship in Japan before bouncing back with a solid T13 at the Soudal Open last weekend.

The Englishman golfer has made three appearances at the European Open, with results of MC in 2021, T3 in 2022 and T29 in 2023.

Mansell has been thereabouts for much of the year and can emerge as the winner at the Green Eagle Golf Courses this weekend.

Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen

Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen has been in tremendous touch on the Challenge Tour this year, winning the Kolkata and the UAE Challenge.

Other prominent performances achieved by Neergaard-Petersen include placing T6 at the Bain's Whisky Cape Town Open, T25 at the Dimension Data Pro-Am, T7 at the Abu Dhabi Challenge and T2 at the Challenge de Espana.

Neergaard-Petersen has contested two DP World Tour tournaments this season, missing the cut at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open and finishing T56 at the Magical Kenya Open.

The Dane is debuting at the 2024 European Open.

Neergaard-Petersen has been playing well this year and will fancy his chances to come out on top in Germany.

Jesper Svensson

Jesper Svensson had a fair beginning to life on the DP World Tour, finishing T70 at the Joburg Open, T2 at the South African Open Championship, MC at the Alfred Dunhill Championship, T31 at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic and T47 at the Ras Al Khaimah Championship.

Svensson was on top of his game after those results, placing T2 at the Bahrain Championship, T16 at the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters, T11 at the Magical Kenya Open, T67 at the Jonsson Workwear Open and victory at the Porsche Singapore Classic.

Svennsson's form has dipped during his subsequent three events, with results of MC at the ISPS Handa Championship in Japan, T17 at the Volvo China Open and T53 at the PGA Championship.

The 28-year-old Swede is debuting at the 2024 European Open.

Svensson hits a long ball and could cause an upset victory in Hamburg this weekend.

Verdict

McKibbin has the form to win back-to-back European Open titles.

Mansell has had an excellent season and will fancy his chances to lift the trophy in Germany come Sunday.

Neergaard-Petersen can convert his Challenge Tour form into victory at the Green Eagle Golf Courses.

Svensson has shown he can mix it with the best and can secure his second DP World Tour title of the year this weekend.
