A world-class lineup of the best golfers return to the Royal County Down Golf Club for the first time since 2015 with the Irish Open on the line. Who will win the latest round of the DP World Tour in Northern Ireland this weekend?

Vincent Norrman returns to defend his title after a one-stroke victory over Hurly Long in 2023.

The Royal County Down GC hosted the Irish Open in 2015, won by Soren Kjeldsen.

Past Major winners in the lineup include Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry, and Padraig Harrington.

These are our four selections that could win the title this weekend.

Aaron Rai

Aaron Rai was in excellent form during the latter stages of the PGA Tour season, placing T14 at the RBC Canadian Open, T19 at the U.S. Open, T2 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, T7 at the John Deere Classic and T4 at the Genesis Scottish Open.

He was T75 at the Open Championship, before winning the Wyndham Championship, T16 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, T43 at the BMW Championship and T23 at the Tour Championship.

Other notable performances achieved by Rai this year include finishing T19 at the Mexico Open, T23 at the Puerto Rico Open, T7 at the Texas Children's Houston Open, T23 at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans and T4 at the CJ CUP Byron Nelson.

The 29-year-old Englishman has made six appearances at the Irish Open, placing T37 in 2018, MC in 2019, 2nd in 2020, T12 in 2021, T9 in 2022 and T39 in 2023.

Rai has been playing well lately and will look to go better than the runner-up result he achieved at the Irish Open a few years ago.

Robert MacIntyre

Robert MacIntyre was in fine form on the PGA Tour from the end of April until mid-July, placing T8 at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, MC at the CJ CUP Byron Nelson, T13 at the Myrtle Beach Classic, T8 at the PGA Championship and MC at the Charles Schwab Challenge.

He won the RBC Canadian Open, MC at the U.S. Open, T16 at the Travelers Championship, MC at the Rocket Mortgage Classic and won the Genesis Scottish Open.

MacIntyre has been in decent nick since those excellent results, finishing T50 at the Open Championship, MC at the Wyndham Championship, T7 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, W/D at the BMW Championship and T17 at the Tour Championship.

The 28-year-old Scotsman has featured twice at the Irish Open, placing T37 in 2018, MC in 2019, 2nd in 2020, T12 in 2021, T9 in 2022 and T39 in 2023.

MacIntyre has had his best season to date and has the form to emerge as the winner in Northern Ireland this weekend.

Bernd Wiesberger

Bernd Wiesberger began his season well on the DP World Tour, placing T21 at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, T37 at the Ras Al Khaimah Championship, T16 at the Bahrain Championship and T16 at the Porsche Singapore Classic before he missed the cut at the Hero Indian Open.

Wiesberger shrugged off that poor result and quickly regained his touch, finishing T24 at the ISPS Handa Championship in Japan, T23 at the Volvo China Open, T24 at the Soudal Open, T2 at the European Open and T7 at the KLM Duch Open.

The 38-year-old form became wayward on the golf course after those performances, with results of T42 at the Italian Open, 16th at the BMW International Open, and MC at the Genesis Scottish Open before placing T6 at the D+D Real Czech Masters, T19 at the Danish Golf Championship and T22 at the Omega European Masters last weekend.

The eight-time DP World Tour winner has an excellent record at the Irish Open, placing 4th in 2011, T2 in 2015, T58 in 2016 and T2 in 2019.

Wiesberger almost won this tournament last time at the Royal County Down GC, and he will draw on that experience to lift the trophy come Sunday.

Sebastian Soderberg

Sebastian Soderberg has been in great touch since the end of March, placing T21 at the Porsche Singapore Classic, T2 at the Hero Indian Open, 2nd at the ISPS Handa Championship in Japan and T3 at the Volvo China Open.

He was then T68 at the PGA Championship, T2 at the Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed and T12 at the Omega European Masters last weekend.

Other noteworthy results achieved by Soderberg this season include finishing T3 at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open, T23 at the Dubai Invitational, T9 at the Ras Al Khaimah Championship and T6 at the Bahrain Championship.

The 33-year-old Swede has yet to make an impact at the Irish Open, with results of MC in 2021, T46 in 2022 and T54 in 2023.

Soderberg could cause an upset victory as he has had five top-three places on the DP World Tour this season.

Verdict

Rai has had impressive results this year and will fancy his chances to win the Irish Open.

MacIntyre is a two-time winner this season and can add another trophy with a victory at the Royal County Down GC this weekend.

Wiesberger has been thereabouts lately and can win another DP World Tour title come Sunday.

Soderberg has been knocking hard this season and has the form to secure the title in Northern Ireland this weekend.
