The International Course Layout

The International course in Amsterdam was designed by Ian Woosnam and is a private course solely used for Corporate members and their invited guests. Golfers who have already experienced the course have commented that their short game is tested to the maximum and the variety on each hole has received great praise.

There are very short holes with up to eight bunkers stacked around the green and that is evened out with some long holes with no bunkers at all. The fairways are mostly quite narrow and that is where players short games will be tested.

KLM Open Golf History

The first KLM Open took place in 1912 at the Haagsche course with Englishman George Pannell winning the inaugural event. The KLM Open did not take place again until 1915, again at Haagsche. This time the winner came from the hosts as Gerry del Court van Krimpen beat English duo Henry Burrows and Ernest Kettley.

The tournament took place every year thereafter until 1939 when the Second World War caused a six year hiatus, but since returning in 1946 the tournament has been an ever present on the yearly calendar. 2019 will be the 100th edition of the KLM Open and while it has often been shifted around the calendar to different timeslots, it has been played in early September since 2010.

A number of different courses within the Netherlands have been used for the KLM Open and in 2019 they will add another new one to the list – The International. The Hilversumsche Golf Club has hosted the most (30) while the Kennemer Golf & Country Club and Royal Haagsche Gold & Country Club have hosted 23 and 20 respectively. None of the other nine venues have hosted more than 10 tournaments.
