The players return after a month hiatus to Illinios for the second edition of the LIV Golf Chicago tournament. Who will lift the trophy come Sunday?

Cameron Smith returns to defend his title after a three-stroke victory over Dustin Johnson and Peter Uihlein in 2022.

Current top-ten in the individual points standings after 11 rounds:

1. Cameron Smith 170 pts
2. Talor Gooch 149 pts
3. Patrick Reed 120 pts
4. Brooks Koepka 112 pts
5. Branden Grace 112 pts
6. Mito Pereira 107 pts
7. Bryson DeChambeau 106 pts
8. Dustin Johnson 101 pts
9. Harold Varner III 97 pts
10. Charles Howell III 88 pts

These are our four selections that could win the title this weekend.

Patrick Reed

Patrick Reed has gone close to winning another title multiple times on the DP World Tour and LIV Golf Tour in 2023, placing 2nd at the Dubai Desert Classic (DP World Tour), T3 in Orlando, 4th at the Masters, T3 in Adelaide, T5 at Valderrama, T2 in London and T3 in Bedminster.

Other notable performances achieved by Reed this season include finishing T18 in Tucson, T13 in Singapore, T11 in Tulsa, and T18 at the PGA Championship.

The American golfer placed T12 at this tournament in 2022.

Reed has done nothing all season on the LIV Golf Tour except win a trophy. Can he finally get over the finish line in Chicago?

Brooks Koepka

Brooks Koepka has had an excellent season, winning on the LIV Golf Tour, securing another Major title and making the USA Ryder Cup team.

Koepka competed on the Asian Tour at the start of the year, finishing T46 at the PIF Saudi International and missing the cut at the International Series in Oman before returning to the LIV Golf League.

The 33-year-old American had an average start, finishing T27 in Mayakoba and T24 in Tucson before finding a rich vein of form by winning in Orlando and placing T2 at the Masters, T11 in Adelaide, 3rd in Singapore, T5 in Tulsa, victory at the PGA Championship, T12 in DC, T17 at the US Open, 3rd at Valderrama and T17 in London.

Brooks's subsequent three tournaments have been disappointing, finishing T64 at the Open Championship, T38 at Greenbrier, and T38 in Bedminster.

The five-time Major champion placed T21 overall at this event last year.

Koepka has not been at his best lately; however, he will have a chance of winning at Rich Harvest Farms if he can rediscover his form from earlier in the season.

Abraham Ancer

Abraham Ancer has had an indifferent season compared to previous years; however, he has refound his touch in his last two starts on the LIV Golf Tour and Asian Tour, placing T3 in Bedminster and T4 at the International Series in England.

Ancer started his season well, winning the Saudi International before finishing T15 in Mayakoba, T24 in Tucson, T26 in Orlando, T39 at the Masters and T11 in Adelaide on the LIV Golf Tour.

The Mexican struggled to find any rhythm in his subsequent five starts, finishing 47th in Singapore, T23 in Tulsa, MC at the PGA Championship, T42 in DC, and T54 at the US Open before showing improvement by placing T19 at Valderrama, T11 in London, T49 at the Open Championship, and T18 at Greenbrier.

The 32-year-old finished T27 at this event last year.

Ancer comes into the LIV Golf Invitational Series in Chicago in solid form and can upstage the others with the victory come Sunday.

Dean Burmester

Dean Burmester has been in great touch on the LIV Golf Tour and Asian Tour since August, placing T7 at Greenbrier, T3 in Bedminster, T16 at the International Series in England, and 7th at St Andrews Bay Championship.

Before that, Burmester had achieved solid success since joining the LIV Golf Invitational Series in February, placing T20 in Mayakoba, T33 in Tucson, T3 in Orlando, T7 in Adelaide, T41 in Singapore, T8 in Tulsa, T15 in DC, T14 at Valderrama and T17 in London.

The South African golfer contested 11 tournaments on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour earlier in the season, with his best result being 4th at the Sanderson Farms Championship, T5 at the Investec South African Open Championship and T7 at the Alfred Dunhill Championship.

Burmester comes into this tournament with four excellent results behind him and will have a chance to take home the winner's cheque if he can replicate those performances.

Format

An invitational field of 48 golfers will feature at the tournament, with a total purse of $25 million up for grabs. $4 million will go to the winner, while the player coming in last will pocket $120,000.

The players will contest 54 holes instead of the traditional 72 for all the LIV Golf Invitational Series events.

A shotgun start will occur, where the players will tee off simultaneously from different holes.

A 12-four-man team format will run concurrent, with the top three teams earning prize money.

Verdict

Reed has been knocking hard and has every chance to win his first LIV Golf title this weekend.

Koepka has won twice this season and can add another trophy to his cabinet in Illinois.

Ancer has been in better shape lately and offers an excellent each-way bet at Rich Harvest Farms.

Burmester is holding form and will fancy his chances to take home the winner's cheque in Chicago.
