The 2020 Northern Trust will be held from 13-16 August, 2020.

The Northern Trust Golf History

This tournament was first staged in 1967 and was called the Westchester Classic. It was played every year at the Westchester Country Club in New York until 2008.

The tournament was traditionally played in June, either the week before the US Open in even-numbered years, or the week after in odd-numbered years. It was known simply as the Westchester Classic from 1967 to 1975 before undergoing a series of sponsor-related name changes.

In 2017, the tournament became known as The Northern Trust, who took over sponsorship duties from Barclays – the title sponsors between 2007 and 2016.

The tournament first moved away from the Westchester Country Club in 2008 when it began to rotate among different clubs in the New York metropolitan area.

After the launch of the FedEx Cup in 2007, this tournament has always been the first of the four playoff events. With the FedEx Cup playoffs reduced to three events from 2019, The Northern Trust retained its place as the first tournament on the schedule.
