PGA Championship History

The first PGA Championship was first held in 1916 at Siwanoy Country Club in New York. Initially a match play event, the tournament was changed to stroke play in 1958 with the standard 72-hole format over four days from Thursday to Sunday.

The PGA Championship is primarily played in the eastern half of the United States with only 11 tournaments taking place in the west including the 2020 tournament at TPC Harding Park in California.

The last tournament played in the Pacific time zone was in 1998 at Sahalee in Seattle. The PGA Championship returns to the west in 2020 at Harding Park in San Francisco.

The PGA Championship is played at various locations in the United States.
