The top 70 in the FedEx Cup standings descend on Delaware to challenge for the BMW Championship.

The competition to qualify for the season finale Tour Championship will be stiff. Additionally there are President Cup places up for grabs. Who will be the winner at the Wilmington Country Club this weekend?

Patrick Cantlay is back to defend his title after winning a six-hole playoff last year.

The Wilmington Country Club is hosting the BMW Championship for the first time, and there will be no cut for this event.

The players who finish in the top 30 of the FedEx Cup points standings at the end of this tournament will qualify for the season-ending Tour Championship at East Lake, with eight Internationals and six Americans securing places in their respective Presidents Cup teams.

Past and present major winners in the lineup include Matt Fitzpatrick, Justin Thomas, Scottie Scheffler, Keegan Bradley, Lucas Glover, Shane Lowry, Hideki Matsuyama, Rory McIlroy, Collin Morikawa, Jon Rahm, Adam Scott, and Jordan Spieth.

These are our four picks that could win the title this weekend.

Jon Rahm

Jon Rahm had an excellent beginning to his year, coming second at the Tournament of Champions, T14 at the American Express, T3 at the Farmers Insurance Open, T10 at the Phoenix Open, T21 at the Genesis Invitational, and T17 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

The Spaniard's form became erratic on the PGA Tour, finishing T55 at the Players Championship, T9 at the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play, T27 at the Masters, bouncing back with victory at the Mexico Open and coming T48 at the PGA Championship.

The fifth world-ranked golfer's subsequent five performances were good, placing T10 at the Memorial Tournament, T12 at the US Open, T55 at the Scottish Open, T34 at the Open Championship and T5 at the FedEx St Jude Invitational this past weekend.

The 27-year-old has a superb record at this event, finishing T5 in 2017, T24 in 2018, T5 in 2019, victory in 2020 and placing T9 last year.

Rahm appears to have turned the corner and will be full of confidence that he can win the BMW Championship for the second time in his career this weekend.

Collin Morikawa

Collin Morikawa did not do well on the links courses, missing the cut at the Scottish Open and the 150th Open Championship, but produced a top finish at the FedEx St Jude invitational coming T5 overall this past weekend.

Before that, the 25-year-old started strong in 2022, placing T5 at the Tournament of Champions, T62 at the Abu Dhabi Championship, T18 at the Dubai Desert Classic, T2 at the Genesis Invitational, MC at the Players Championship, T68 at the Valspar Championship and T9 at the WGC World Match Play.

The American surged late in the final round at the Masters to place fifth. After that result, his performances on the fairways became inconsistent, finishing T26 at the RBC Heritage, T29 at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, T55 at the PGA Championship, T40 at the Charles Schwab Challenge, MC at the Memorial Tournament but returning to form with a T5 at the US Open.

The eighth world-ranked golfer has featured at the BMW Championship on three occasions, finishing T48 in 2019, T20 in 2020 and T63 last year.

Morikawa will be confident in his current game after his recent performance to secure another win. Additionally, the Wilmington Country Club should suit his play.

Joaquin Niemann

Joaquin Niemann was in impressive form at the start of the year, placing T6 at the Farmers Insurance Open, T8 at the Saudi International, and winning the Genesis Invitational before missing the cut at the Honda Classic.

The Chilean's subsequent six starts were good, finishing T22 at the Players Championship, T35 at the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play, T35 at the Masters, T12 at the RBC Heritage, T25 at the AT&T Byron Nelson and T23 at the PGA Championship.

The 23-year-old bounced back to his best at the Memorial Tournament, placing T3 overall, but he struggled at the US Open, finishing T47, and he missed the cut at the Travelers Championship.

He headed to the UK to contest the Scottish Open, placing a decent T16. He did not perform well at the 150th Open Championship, finishing T53, but he showed improvement at the FedEx St Jude Invitational this past weekend, placing T13.

The 18th world-ranked golfer has played three times at the BMW Championship, finishing T31 in 2019, placing T3 in 2020 and T29 last year.

Niemann looked like he was threatening to produce a top result in his last tournament and could make the frame this weekend.

Brian Harman

Brian Harman has had a busy year on the PGA Tour, producing two top three places and four top ten finishes in 20 tournaments.

Harman finished T48, T3 at the American Express, T65, T14 at the Phoenix Open, MC, T63, T5 at the Valspar Championship, T35 at the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play, MC and T35 at the RBC Heritage in the first ten starts of 2022.

The American continued to perform well on the greens, placing T9 at the Wells Fargo Championship, T34 at the PGA Championship, MC, T18 at the Memorial Tournament, and T43 at the US Open.

The 35-year-old has been on an upward trajectory in recent weeks, placing T8 at the Travelers Championship, MC, T6 at the 150th Open Championship, T71 at the Wyndham Championship, and T3 at the FedEx St Jude Invitational this past weekend.

His last five starts at the BMW Championship have been decent, finishing T13 in 2016, T40 in 2017, 68th in 2018, T12 in 2020 and T29 last year.

Harman has had three top ten places in his last five tournaments and is the long-shot value bet in Delaware.

Verdict

Rahm looked back to his best last time out and can return to winning ways come Sunday.

Morikawa has yet to secure a title on the PGA Tour this year but can be challenging for the victory this weekend.

Niemann has solid form and can feature prominently in Delaware.

Harman has the form to surprise the others and lift the trophy at the Wilmington Country Club.
