The PGA Tour returns to Texas for the Charles Schwab Challenge, where a host of the world's best players will be vying to claim the honours at the prestigious Colonial Country Club this weekend.

Sam Burns is back to defend his title after defeating Scottie Scheffler in a playoff in 2022.

Seven major winners who will tee off on Thursday include Scottie Scheffler, Jordan Spieth, Collin Morikawa, Justin Rose, Zach Johnson, Jimmy Walker and Danny Willett.

These are our four selections that could win the title this weekend.

Tony Finau

Tony Finau has been ultra-consistent on the PGA Tour this season, including registering two wins.

Finau did not perform well at his first event, missing the cut at the World Wide Technology Championship before returning to form by winning the Cadence Bank Houston Open.

The 33-year-old continued to hold form after his victory, placing 7th at the Hero World Challenge, T7 at the Sentry Tournament of Champions, T16 at the American Express, T9 at the Farmers Insurance Open, T14 at the WM Phoenix Open, T20 at the Genesis Invitational, T24 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, T19 at the Players Championship and T17 at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play.

His subsequent two starts were decent, finishing T26 at the Masters and T31 at the RBC Heritage before claiming his second tournament victory of the season at the Mexico Open and placing T23 at the Wells Fargo Championship and T72 at the PGA Championship.

The American's last five results at the Charles Schwab Challenge have been excellent, placing T29 in 2017, 2nd in 2019, T23 in 2020, T20 in 2021 and T4 in 2022.

Finau has gone close to winning this event twice and has the form to make the frame in Texas this weekend.

Viktor Hovland

Viktor Hovland was in the running to win the first Major tournament of his career at the PGA Championship last weekend before his chances were dashed at the 16th hole during the final round, dropping vital shots which saw him finishing joint second with Scottie Scheffler.

Before that, Hovland had been in excellent form on the PGA Tour, placing T5 at the ZOZO Championship, T21 at the CJ Cup, T10 at the World Wide Technology Championship, victory at the Hero World Challenge, T18 at the Sentry Tournament of Champions, T13 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and T42 at the WM Phoenix Open.

The Norwegian continued to perform well, placing T20 at the Genesis Invitational, T10 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, T3 at the Players Championship, T31 at the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play, and T7 at the Masters before finishing T59 at the RBC Heritage and T43 at the Wells Fargo Championship.

The world's number six ranked golfer has made two appearances at the Charles Schwab Challenge, placing T23 in 2020 and T21 in 2022.

Hovland will look to make amends with victory at the Colonial Country Club after his disappointing finish at the PGA Championship last weekend.

Justin Rose

Justin Rose has rediscovered his touch on the PGA Tour this season, producing top performances, including a victory.

Rose struggled by missing the cut at the World Wide Technology Championship before finishing T9 at the Cadence Bank Houston Open, T29 at the RSM Classic, T26 at the American Express and T18 at the Farmers Insurance Open.

The 42-year-old Englishman returned to winning ways in his next start, his first on the PGA Tour for four years by winning the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am before missing the cut at the Genesis and Arnold Palmer Invitationals.

Rose bounced back after those two disappointing results by placing T6 at the Players Championship, T36 at the Valspar Championship, T16 at the Masters, T25 at the RBC Heritage and T9 at the PGA Championship last weekend.

The former world number one last five starts at the Colonial Country Club have been impressive, winning in 2018 before placing T58 in 2019, T3 in 2020, T20 in 2021 and MC in 2022.

Rose has been on the rise this year and has a proven track record at this event, giving him the confidence to win his second career Charles Schwab Challenge.

Tommy Fleetwood

Tommy Fleetwood had mixed fortunes in his first nine tournaments on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour this year, placing 53rd, T4 at the CJ Cup in South Carolina, 20th at the Hero World Challenge, T38 at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship (DP World Tour), T59, MC, T20 at the Genesis Invitational and T27 at the Players Championship.

Fleetwood regained his touch, placing T3 at the Valspar Championship, T52 at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play, 33rd at the Masters, T15 at the RBC Heritage, T5 at the Wells Fargo Championship and T18 at the recent PGA Championship.

The 32-year-old Englishman finished T35 on his debut at this event in 2022.

Fleetwood has had two top-five places in his last six tournaments and offers excellent value at the Charles Schwab Challenge.

Verdict

Charles Schwab Challenge

Finau has been no stranger to winning this season and has the consistency to come out on top at the Charles Schwab Challenge.

Hovland has the game to go all the way and lift the trophy at the Colonial Country Club.

Rose has tasted success here before and will fancy his chances to win in Texas this weekend.

Fleetwood has been in great touch and could upstage the others with the victory come Sunday.
