A mix of seasoned professionals and emerging stars return to Illinois to compete in the John Deere Classic this weekend. Who will walk away with the honours at TPC Deere Run come Sunday?

Davis Thompson is back to defend his title after a four-stroke victory over Luke Clanton, Pan Cheng-tsung, and Michael Thorbjornsen in 2024.

Past Major winners in the field include Jason Day, Lucas Glover, Zach Johnson, and Danny Willett.

These are our selections that could win the title this weekend.

Ben Griffin

Ben Griffin has been in outstanding form on the PGA Tour since mid-May, placing T8 at the PGA Championship, victory at the Charles Schwab Challenge, 2nd at the Memorial Tournament, T10 at the U.S. Open, T14 at the Travelers Championship, and T13 at the Rocket Classic last weekend.

Other notable results achieved by Griffin during 2025 include T4 at the Mexico Open, T4 at the Cognizant Classic, T18 at the Texas Children's Houston Open, and victory at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

The 29-year-old placed T5 at the 2024 John Deere Classic on debut.

Griffin has been in great shape this season and can lift the winning trophy come Sunday.

Jason Day

Jason Day has been playing well on the PGA Tour lately, placing T8 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, T27 at the Texas Children's Houston Open, T8 at the Masters, T49 at the RBC Heritage, MC at the PGA Championship, T23 at the U.S. Open, and T4 at the Travelers Championship.

Additional highlights from Day's season include a T8 at the BMW Australian PGA Championship, a T3 at the American Express, and a T13 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

The 11-time PGA Tour winner has contested the John Deere Classic on six occasions, finishing T67 in 2006, T41 in 2008, T15 in 2009, T15 in 2010, T68 in 2011, and T23 in 2024.

Day will fancy his chances of victory at TPC Deere Run after recording three top-ten places in his last seven outings.

Michael Thorbjornsen

Michael Thorbjornsen has been in excellent form lately, placing T4 at the Corales Puntacana Championship, T4 at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, T33 at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, T54 at the Truist Championship, T41 at the PGA Championship, and T4 at the Rocket Classic last weekend.

Before those results, Thorbjornsen struggled during his opening nine events in the PGA Tour, with his best results being a T39 at the Cognizant Classic and a T39 at the Texas Children's Houston Open.

The American golfer has made two appearances at the John Deere Classic, placing T17 in 2023 and T2 in 2024.

Michael Thorbjornsen can convert his recent displays into a winning one in Illinois this weekend.

Kevin Yu

Kevin Yu has been in solid form on the PGA Tour in his last five outings, placing 4th at the Myrtle Beach Classic, T50 at the PGA Championship, MC at the Charles Schwab Challenge, 3rd at the RBC Canadian Open, and T25 at the Travelers Championship.

Other noteworthy performances achieved by Yu this season include a T16 finish at the WM Phoenix Open, a T17 at the Genesis Invitational, a T12 at the Valspar Championship, and a T18 at the Texas Children's Houston Open.

The Taiwanese golfer has made two appearances at the John Deere Classic, placing T6 in 2023 and T20 in 2024.

Kevin Yu has been thereabouts lately and could upstage the other at TPC Deere Run this weekend.

Verdict

Griffin is no stranger to winning on the PGA Tour this season and will be in the mix come Sunday.

Day has the form to secure victory in Illinois this weekend.

Thorbjornsen has been knocking hard lately and can win the title at TPC Deere Run this weekend.

Kevin Yu has posted solid results lately and should enter calculations at the 2025 John Deere Classic.
