The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass has thrown up a mixture of the world's elite and some surprise winners down the years. Which way will it go in 2021?

With a field brimming with talent, there is plenty of each-way value lurking down the bookmaker lists ahead of the PGA Tour's showpiece event, which carries a $15 million purse.

Our The Players Championship winner tips have been made, but there is also plenty of value to be found in the Top 10 Finish markets. Three stand out as solid chances.

Webb Simpson

Winner of The Players Championship three years ago, the 2018 champion has solid enough Sawgrass form either side with two 16th placed finishes.

Simpson has had a light schedule so far this year, playing only four tournaments. Two of them have ended in top-10 finishes.

The American was 17th in the season-opening Tournament of Champions in January and stayed in Hawaii as he finished fourth in the Sony Open, two shots adrift of winner Kevin Na.

Never in contention at the Phoenix Open where he finished 42nd, Simpson's most recent appearance was when finishing sixth at the WGC-Mexico Championship two weeks ago. That effort should stand him in good stead this week.

Hideki Matsuyama

You can only describe Matsuyama as unlucky after his course-record equalling round of 63 counted for nothing when last year's The Players Championship was abandoned after the opening round.

What it did underline was just how good the Japanese star can be around Sawgrass.

Matsuyama has two top 10s in his last four appearances in The Players Championship. He was seventh in 2016 and eighth in 2019, and had started last year's tournament with that nine-under 63.

Matsuyama has enjoyed top-20 finishes in the last two weeks at the WCG-Mexico Championship (15th) and Arnold Palmer Invitational (18th), and he looks primed for a good week.

Tommy Fleetwood

Fleetwood has finished in the top 10 in the last two The Players Championship, and the Englishman represents good value to repeat those exploits again at TPC Sawgrass.

Fleetwood was seventh behind Webb Simpson in 2018, which was only his second appearance in the event. He followed that with fifth place behind Rory McIlroy in 2019.

He jointly held the lead after Round 1 and Round 2 two years ago. He was one shot off the pace after the penultimate day but was unable to get the job done.

Fleetwood showed a liking for the Sawgrass test and, fresh off a 10th placed finish at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, can record a third straight top-10 in the Players.
