The United States are odds-on favourites to win the 2023 Ryder Cup after captain Zach Johnson named his team yesterday.

Justin Thomas was a somewhat surprising selection given his recent form, but his excellent Ryder Cup record has earned him a spot on the American team.

It will be fascinating to see who Europe’s captain Luke Donald goes for when his team is confirmed in the coming weeks, but for now the bookmakers are giving the United States the edge.

They have been priced up as the 4/5 favourites with Coral to lift the Ryder Cup in Rome next month.

“In-form players Lucas Glover and Keegan Bradley can count themselves very unlucky to have missed out,” Coral’s Lewis Knowles told FreeTips.com.

“Zach Johnson has seemingly prioritised Ryder Cup pedigree over recent form, and it will be fascinating to see how it plays out when it all kicks off in late September.

“There’s no doubt that the USA have the stronger team in terms of depth, but with Rahm, McIlroy and Hovland representing Europe, Luke Donald has some of the best golfers in the world on his team.

“We could see plenty of support in the market for the Europeans before they tee off in just over four weeks’ time.”
