On the back of his victory at the Scottish Open, Rory McIlroy has been well backed to win this week’s Open Championship.

McIlroy has not won one of golf’s Major tournaments since 2014, when he was victorious at both the Open and the PGA Championship, but punters appear confident that his drought is set to end.

They have been getting behind the Northern Irishman in the wake of his success at The Renaissance Club, and, as a result, bookmaker Coral has cut his Open odds from 15/2 to 13/2.

That makes him the bookmakers’ favourite to lift the Claret Jug at Hoylake, with 8/1 Scottie Scheffler and 12/1 Jon Rahm considered his biggest threats.

The bookmaker is also wary of 20/1 shot Rickie Fowler, who has found some good form recently.

“Rory McIlroy is always popular in our golf markets, but we’ve definitely seen increased support for him after his win in the Scottish Open this weekend,” Coral’s Lewis Knowles told FreeTips.com.

“Holding off players like Scheffler and Rahm at Hoylake will be no easy task, but Rickie Fowler has really sprung back to form of late, and he could be the value bet at around 20/1.”
