Rory McIlroy and Matt Fitzpatrick are proving popular with Open Championship punters, according to the bookmakers.

McIlroy has been cut from 10/1 to 9/1 to remain the favourite in Coral’s betting for this Major.

Scottish Open winner Xander Schauffele is the 12/1 second favourite, but he has not proven to be as popular with customers as Matt Fitzpatrick.

Fitzpatrick’s odds has been trimmed to 14/1, from 16/1, following support for the Englishman.

“McIlroy is all the rage for punters betting on who will win the 150th edition of the famous event and at the iconic St Andrews,” Coral’s Harry Aitkenhead told FreeTips.com.

“The 33-year-old is the 9/1 favourite to lift the Claret Jug on Sunday evening.

“Matt Fitzpatrick has been well backed to win again and we were forced to trim his odds today due to the support from our customers in the outright market.”
