World number one Scottie Scheffler is the bookmakers’ favourite to win the Open Championship this week.
The biggest names in golf are heading to Royal Troon with their sights set on claiming the Claret Jug, and one of them is the man who currently heads up the rankings.
Scheffler broke his Major duck at the 2024 Masters tournament, and is now 4/1 with Coral to add the Open crown this week.
The 28-year-old American’s biggest threat comes in the form of Rory McIlory, who will be desperate to issue a response to his US Open collapse last month.
The Northern Irishman is a former Open champion, having lifted the Claret Jug 10 years ago, and he is 13/2 to end his Major drought in Scotland.
“It’s no surprise to see Scottie Scheffler at the head of the betting once again,” Coral’s Lewis Knowles told FreeTips.com.
“But the course at Royal Troon won’t suit him as well as other major courses, and punters may well look elsewhere for some value in this week’s Open betting.
“Rory McIlroy will undoubtedly be popular over the coming days at 13/2, and 10 years without a Major is far too long for a player of his quality.”
