Sweden vs Germany Predictions

Sweden were the more consistent side throughout this tournament and I will back them to win a bronze medal on the German soil.

  • Sweden have won 8 of their last 11 matches.
  • Sweden have won their last 3 matches against Germany.
  • Germany are winless in 4 of their last 6 matches.

Head to Head

Germany have a 9-7 advantage against Sweden with 5 draws in 21 matches.

The most recent head to head duel was won by Sweden 32-23 in April 2023.

Sweden Form

Sweden were denied a spot in the grand finals after a dramatic ending against France two days ago in the semi-finals, losing in overtime 34-30.

The Swedes started the tournament with a 29-20 victory against Bosnia & Herzegovina, followed by even more commanding win against Georgia 42-26.

The third round brought the biggest test in the first phase, struggling but eventually beating Netherlands 29-28 in a dramatic fashion.

In their premiere appearance in the 2nd phase, the Swedes defeated Slovenia quite comfortably 28-22 but then lost a derby match to their big rivals Denmark 28-27. A spot in the semi-finals was sealed earlier this week with a 40-33 win over Portugal.

After securing the 2nd place, Sweden used a combined lineup against Norway and lost 33-23.

Germany Form

Germany put up a good fight in the semi-finals against the reigning champions Denmark, had a two-goal lead at half-time, but still lost the match 29-26.

The hosts of the European Championship 2024 have defeated Switzerland 27-14 in the tournament opening clash, while earning another convincing victory in the second round against North Macedonia 34-25.

Things were not looking good in the first big test, losing the third-round match to France 33-30 and carrying over zero points to the second phase.

The semi-final dream was kept alive thanks to the 26-24 victory against Iceland and a 22-22 draw against Austria in the second phase. Thanks to other results, Germany qualified for the semi-finals despite losing to inconsistent Croatia 30-24 earlier this week.

Even though their accomplishments are great, Germany still didn’t beat any tier-one team in the tournament. I will back Sweden to win the bronze medal, mainly due to their huge experience in playing important matches.
