The Everest is the richest thoroughbred race in the world run on turf with $20 million up for grabs and the 2024 edition promises to be a thriller.

The one-of-a-kind race in Australia is held at Randwick every October and slots are purchased for $700,000 with the owners choosing their respective runner.

This year's race looks ultra-competitive with a number of chances to claim the prestigious and rich prize. Where does the value lie? Get our top tips.

The Everest Betting Tips

Best Bet - Sunshine In Paris

On anything firmer than heavy ground, Sunshine In Paris is good as any sprinter we've got currently, although there's no standouts campaigning in Australia at present.

Keeping this lightly raced five-year-old on the fresh side could be the key, with the mare completing a tick-over trial since her first-up triumph in the Sheraco Stakes.

That's also a positive given the fast-run nature of that event and while she was still competitive, she was a touch flat second-up last prep off a shorter turnaround.

The weather models are a raffle this far out, so there's no need to climb in early and providing it's not a testing surface, then Sunshine In Paris is a cracking each-way price.

Next Best Bet - Stefi Magnetica

Despite having zero intent when first-up in The Shorts, which was effectively a barrier trial, Stefi Magnetica still nearly pinched that key lead-up race to The Everest.

The Stradbroke winner was dragged back early and then after being ridden for luck in the straight, she only just missed I Am Me despite only getting clear in the last 100m.

She's now a double figure quote even after that flashing light performance and the Bjorn Baker-trained galloper is ideally placed over an extra 100m here second-up.

While Stefi Magnetica is versatile, a low weight and an economical run saw her get seven furlongs in Brisbane, but I feel she could be more effective via a genuine 1200m.

Value Bet - Giga Kick

His first-up performance off a long spell was a pass mark and despite completing a trial after the return outing, he was still carrying a lot of condition second-up on October 5.

Although it wasn't a bad performance on paper, the jury is out on the 2022 Everest winner after that Premiere Stakes, however, we'll get a true gauge on him here.

Punters have had enough of the five-year-old, who is now a double figure quote off a string of much shorter starting prices and Mark Zahra is aboard for this assignment.

If he was sub $10 (or thereabouts), I'd be tempted to take Giga Kick on, but with a platform to be peaking for his target race, do you want to be losing on him at double figure odds?
