Winterbottom Stakes Odds - Overpass heads betting market for Ascot Group 1

- Bjorn Baker-trained, unbeaten over 1200m at Ascot
- Western Empire and Lady Laguna are key contenders
Overpass is unbeaten in Western Australia and has been installed as the favourite to win the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes at Ascot on Saturday, November 30.
The Bjorn Baker-trained galloper succeessful in all three appearances over the 1200m at Ascot and that includes a comfortable victory in last year's Winterbottom Stakes.
The six-year-old will contest this feature third-up following a somewhat plain performance in the Champions Sprint, however, it's worth noting that he won the 2023 Winterbottom Stakes after being well held in The Everest.
At $2.60 with Ladbrokes, Overpass is favourite to win the 2024 Winterbottom Stakes.
Western Empire ($5) is an interesting runner, with the seven-year-old focusing on shorter distances this campaign and he'll likely go up to 1400m for the Gold Rush on December 14.
The 2021 Railway Stakes winner was a stylish second-up winner last campaign and the Williams stable have focused on the Winterbottom Stakes and the Gold Rush as the target races this prep.
Annabel Neasham & Rob Archibald prepared the first Group 1 winner of the 2024 Perth Summer Carnival and they're well placed for a second feature victory with Lady Laguna ($6), who was a Group 1 WFA winner in March.
Her Canterbury Stakes triumph and George Ryder Stakes runner-up finish were both recorded deep into that campaign, so there's room for progression off three spring runs following a August 24 return effort.
