The first Grade One race of the British National Hunt season will be handed out at Haydock Park on Saturday afternoon. Legends like Kauto Star, Cue Card, Silviniaco Conti and Bristol De Mai feature on the roll of honour at Haydock and a classy field of four runners will take part in this year's renewal.

Here's our free guide to the 2023 Betfair Chase, including our best betting tips.

2023 Betfair Chase Tips - Bravemansgame

Corach Rambler ran a deplorable race on his return to action at Kelso and will have to raise his game massively to get involved. Royale Pagaille is an admirable horse and Venetia Williams' horses could hardly be in better form. That being said, Royale Pagaille is yet to win a Graded race outside of handicap company and Charlie Deutsch's mount has two multiple Grade One winners to contend with.

Like last season, Dan Skelton will aim to have Protektorat firing on all cylinders going into the Betfair Chase. Harry Skelton's mount produced a dominant display to beat Eldorado Allen by 11 lengths and the defending champion will take plenty of beating if in the same vein of form.

Skelton's horses have, however, seemed to need their first outings this season and Protektorat has a race-fit BRAVEMANSGAME (4/5) to contend with this time around. Paul Nicholls' stable star jumped as impeccably as ever for 95% of the Charlie Hall Chase, but a blunder at the final flight allowed Gentlemansgame to claim a narrow advantage and Harry Cobden didn't seem overly fussed about trying to regain the lead.

Given that Cobden has a full book of rides at Ascot on Saturday - including on Pic D'Orhy, who takes on Shishkin in the 1965 Chase - Daryl Jacob has been called up to ride Bravemansgame. Jacob, a former stable jockey of Paul Nicholls, gave Bristol De Mai three fantastic winning rides in 2017, 2018 and 2020, and he won't be phased by the opportunity to ride Britain's highest-rated chaser in the first Grade One of the season.

Bravemansgame ran out a hugely impressive winner on his only previous start around Haydock and the ground could have been much more testing. Paul Nicholls' star should get the job done.

It's been almost ten years since Paul Nicholls saddled the last of his six Betfair Chase winners, but that looks set to change on Saturday. If Bravemansgame can produce his best form at Haydock, then he should take plenty of beating.
