Breeders' Cup History

The Breeders' Cup is a two-day series of racing which features some of the best thoroughbreds from all around the world.

Held in November, the Breeders' Cup is targeted by the biggest stables and the Breeders' Cup Classic and Breeders' Cup Turf excite fans and punters alike.

Horses from all different backgrounds line up for the big prize money and it's a true celebration of the thoroughbred, which is what the founders of the Breeders' Cup were wanting.

In 1982, a group of thoroughbred breeders from Kentucky devised a plan to see which horse was the best in the world.

This culminated in the Breeders' Cup being born and the hopes of racing in the US to be a global event was achieved.

The first running was in 1984 where there were seven premier races on the card and it has now evolved into a 13-race card over two days.

The destination changes from year-to-year but the likes of Del Mar, Churchill Downs and Santa Anita feature prominently.

With the lowest stake on offer being $1 million, the racing on offer for punters to bet on is top-quality and that's why it's quickly becoming one of the biggest racing festivals in the world.

Breeders' Cup Results

Day one was all about the two-year-olds, and it was Echo Zulu who stole the show with a five-length demolition job in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies. Twilight Gleaming, Pizza Bianco and Corniche also got on Friday's score sheet.

The final race on Friday went the way of Charlie Appleby, as Modern Games landed the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf. Appleby's hot streak then continued on Saturday, with Space Blues and Yibir both landing major prizes for the boys in blue.

Golden Pal and Life Is Good opened the Grade One action on day two with two impressive Grade One wins. Japan then claimed their first-ever victory at the Breeders' Cup, when Love Is You struck in the Filly And Turf.

Yoshito Yahagi's joy was doubled an hour later, when Oisin Murphy guided 40/1 shot Marche Lorraine to victory in the Distaff. Knicks Go then brought the curtain down on another thrilling Breeders' Cup with a superb performance in the Breeders' Cup Classic.
