CROSSFORD was an unfancied 33/1 shot on debut, and didn't get off to the best of starts. Tom Marquand's mount travelled nicely into the race, though, and moved into contention two from home - only to hang badly left when Marquand applied the pressure, and the duo had to settle for third.

Marquand didn't go hell-for-leather on Crossford that day. By Dawn Approach and out of a mare who's other three progeny all managed to win, it's clear he has plenty more to give. He could be the one to beat.

I always find these minor black-type races for fillies very hard to predict, especially when there are 17 runners. The class angle here has to be CLOAK OF SPIRITS, who finished second to Love in the 1000 Guineas earlier in the campaign.

Richard Hannon's filly has placed in two Group Threes over a mile since then, and didn't run badly when finishing fifth in the seven-furlong Sceptre Stakes last time out. Cloak Of Spirits has run very well on both her starts on the Rowley Mile, and could appreciate the quicker ground on this occasion. She'll be my tentative selection.

Race 3 - Princess Royal Muhaarar Stakes Tips

Three-year-olds have dominated this Group Three, winning all-but-three of the 13 editions, so I think it's sensible to look towards the younger brigade. While Alpinista brings the best form to the table, I'm going to side with the progressive KATARA.

Sir Michael Stoute's filly made her debut here on the Rowley Mile last year, but almost fell coming out of the stalls and couldn't recover thereafter. Since then, Katara has finished a head behind Majestic Noor, beaten a future winner by five lengths on the all-weather, and dispatched of a decent field in confident fashion in the Chalice Stakes.

This is another big step up in Class, considering the five rivals she faces are all fellow Listed winners, but I think Katara will be up to the task.

Race 4 - Shadwell Rockfel Stakes Tips

A disappointing turn out for this year's edition of this Group Two. Aidan O'Brien's Monday is the favourite, having made all to win the Listed Ingabelle Stakes during Irish Champions Weekend.

I would rather side with ISABELLA GILES. Clive Cox's filly beat two horses rated in the high-90s by seven lengths when winning the Prestige Stakes at Goodwood. Adam Kirby's mount really seemed to relish the step up to seven furlongs that day, and she would certainly be a worthy winner of this important race.

Kameko has struggled for results since winning the 2000 Guineas, but he'll be a big player dropping down to Group Two company. Benbatl bolted up in this race 12 months ago on the back of a break, and Saeed Bin Suroor's star will look to win from the front once again.

Older horses have won ten of the last 12 runnings of the Joel Stakes, and Benbatl must have a massive chance. Softening ground and a strong pace, however, will play right into the hands of TOP RANK.

James Tate has taken the slowly slowly approach with this talented colt. Top Rank has lost just once in his career, and that came in the Clipper Logistics Handicap at York, where he travelled powerfully and went down by a length. PJ McDonald's mount looked a class or two above his rivals when winning the Superior Mile at Haydock last time out, and I think he'll take his form to a new level here.

Race 6 - Godolphin Stakes Tips

12 months ago, LOXELY went down narrowly to one of his stablemates, in a race sponsored by his owners. Charlie Appleby's charge has been off the track since claiming a surprise victory in the Group Two City Of Gold Stakes out in Meydan, but he has gone well on the back of similar breaks in the past, and the plan has clearly been to get Loxley back to this race nice and fresh.

Race 7 - Shadwell Farm Handicap Tips

Kattani4:45pm Shadwell Farm Handicap 1m1fGET 5/1 HERE

During his time with Dermot Weld, KATTANI looked a horse with a decent amount of potential. A switch to Mick Appleby's stable followed in the summer, and James Doyle's mount has run well to place under top-weight in two ten-furlong handicaps since.

Appleby's four-year-old is due to go up the weights an extra four pounds, so he's well-in running off his official mark of 82. This looks a very tricky race to close day two of the Cambridgeshire Meeting, but I'm willing to take a chance on Kattani.
