This first half of a Group One double-header at Newmarket on Saturday is the Cheveley Park Stakes. Many legendary fillies have rounded off their juvenile campaigns with a victory in this historic contest, including future Classic winners like Pretty Polly, Fleet, Marling and Special Duty.

We've taken a look through the confirmed field for Saturday's Cheveley Park Stakes and picked out our best bets.

Having lost her unbeaten record to the impressive Tahiyra in the Moyglare Stud Stakes, Aidan O'Brien's Meditate will drop back to six furlongs in Saturday's Cheveley Park Stakes. Meditate is the 2/1 favourite ahead of Richard Hannon's Trillium, who could step up to six furlongs after victories in the Molecomb and Flying Childers Stakes.

Karl Burke's Swingalong could step up into Group One company for the first time, following her narrow victory in the Lowther Stakes. Ralph Beckett could be represented by Dick Poole winner, Juliet Sierra and Group Three winner, Lezoo.

Mawj, who beat Lezoo when they met in the Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes at Newmarket's July Festival, also takes her chance, as does Paddy Twomey's raider Treasure Trove. Other notable names in the Cambridgeshire Meeting betting include George Boughey's Malrescia and Maylandsea for Michael Bell.

If Ryan Moore rides Meditate aggressively, like he has done on all of her starts this season, then they will be hard to peg back. That being said, Aidan O'Brien's filly wasn't particularly impressive when she narrowly beat two modest rivals in the Debutante and she had no answer to Tahiyra in the Moyglare. Meditate could be vulnerable to an improver.

I'm not sure the Rowley Mile is a track that will suit Trillium, who likes to be held up off the pace. Lezoo's form from earlier in the season doesn't look that strong and Swingalong's surprise triumph in the Lowther Stakes has also been let down somewhat too.

One who has continued to progress with each of her starts this season is JULIET SIERRA, who can currently be backed at a double-figure price.

Ralph Beckett's filly was my selection in the Dick Poole Fillies Stakes on the back of an impressive novice victory at Nottingham. Juliet Sierra was well-backed on the day and rewarded her supporters with a narrow victory over All The Time and Tagline.

The form of that race doesn't seem strong on paper and she only won by a neck. Yet, the way Juliet Sierra traveled into the race suggests she was much better than Group Three level and she was clearly idling as soon as she hit the front.

This is a big step up in class, but if Beckett's filly has improved again for that Salisbury win, she could challenge for this historic prize at Newmarket racecourse.

Verdict

Cheveley Park Stakes

This is an extremely competitive renewal of the Cheveley Park and I see no reason why Juliet Sierra won't lay down a challenge. She's too big at 10/1.
