Richard Hannon is yet to celebrate victory in the Dewhurst, but he'll have high hopes for favourite, Chindit. Pat Dobbs' mount ran away with the Pat Eddery Stakes, before scoring an impressive one-length victory in the Champagne Stakes last time out.

Joseph O'Brien rode War Command to victory for his father, Aidan in the 2013 Dewhurst. Joseph now has the chance to celebrate victory as a trainer, with his raider, Thunder Moon carrying Group One winning form into Newmarket, having struck in the National Stakes on Irish Champions Weekend.

Hamdan Al Maktoum has stumped up the supplementary fee to throw Alkumait into the Dewhurst mix. Marcus Tregoning's juvenile looked good when winning the Mill Reef Stakes, and should appreciate this step up in trip.

St Mark's Basicila, who had to be withdrawn from the action at Longchamp due to that batch of contaminated feed, could also fly the flag for Ballydoyle. Aidan also has Wembley entered up, who finished ahead of his stablemate, and behind Thunder Moon in the National Stakes.

Jessica Harrington could also be represented in the Dewhurst, with Cadillac sitting prominently in the betting. Cadillac bounced back from a narrow defeat in the Futurity Stakes with a sparkling Group Two win at Leopardstown, powering to a three-length triumph in the Future Champions Stakes.

Albasheer followed Chindit home in the Champagne Stakes, and Own Burrow's charge will relish the chance to renew rivalries. As will Fivethousandtoone, who was beaten less than a length by Alkumait in the Mill Reef.

Etonian is two-from-two at Sandown this season, surviving a stumble on the final bend to seal a comfortable win in the Solario Stakes when last seen in August.

Poetic Flare will try to hand Jim Bolger a sixth win in the Dewhurst Stakes. William Buick will ride Decisive Edge for Brian Meehan, while Devilwala, Devious Company and the Queen's Royal Ascot winner, Tactical will also take their chance.

In the last 15 years, 11 winners of the Dewhurst sat either first or second in the betting. Only one winner in that time hadn't previously run over seven furlongs before arriving at Newmarket, which puts a strike next to the likes of Alkumait and Fivethousandtoone, who've only ever run over six.

Cadillac is a horse I really like for next year's 2000 Guineas, but I think he could be found a little wanitng on this drop back to seven furlongs. Etonian has certainly been underestimated in the betting. I just worry about how Richard Hannon's colt will handle the testing nature of this track.

Chindit has every chance to end an excellent campaign on an almighty high, and I wouldn't put anyone off backing the Champagne Stakes winner. I, however, was so impressed with THUNDER MOON'S victory in the National Stakes, and fancy Joseph O'Brien's colt to follow-up.

Aidan O'Brien's Military Style went forward and set a brisk pace that day, attempting to set the race up for fast closers like St Mark's Basilica and Wembley. The plan almost worked, as the fancied horses like Lucky Vega and Master Of The Seas - who'd sat just behind the pace - didn't really pick up when asked for an effort.

Thunder Moon had sat on the rail behind the pace-setter, and was badly impeded by Military Style as he dropped back through the field. Shane Crosse had to drag his mount left to find some open air. Despite his momentum getting checked significantly, Thunder Moon was able to find another gear in the closing stages, and finished with plenty of daylight between himself and the other placers.

The National Stakes has proven to be an excellent stepping stone to the Dewhurst. Since 2006, seven winners of the National Stakes have gone on to run in the Dewhurst. Six of the seven have won, with only Power - who finished second in the 2011 Dewhurst behind Parish Hall - letting the form down.

Had Thunder Moon not been hampered, who knows how far he might have won the National Stakes by. I think he'll be too much for the English challengers to handle in Newmarket's Saturday feature.

Thunder Moon didn't get much luck in running, but still ran out a comfortable winner of the National Stakes. Winner of that Group One have an excellent record in the Dewhurst, and there's clearly more to come from Joseph O'Brien's raider. 3/1 is a great price.
