While there has been plenty of racing in the UAE over the winter, last Friday marked the official start of the 2025 Dubai World Cup Carnival.

Over the next three months, Meydan racecourse will stage a top-quality card every Friday afternoon. Super Saturday takes place on March 1st, before this famous meeting concludes with Dubai World Cup Night on April 6th.

Here are three horses to back on week two of the Dubai World Cup Carnival at Meydan.

2:05pm Meydan - National Industrial Park Handicap Tips

As is the custom during the DWCC, Charlie Appleby will saddle the favourite in the majority of the turf races on Friday. The weakest of his market leaders is arguably Creative Story in this seven-furlong handicap, so I'm going to take the market leader on with the dangerous TAFREEJ (20/1).

Tafreej was a regular in ITV handicaps when trained by William Haggas in 2023. Jim Crowley's mount won at Yarmouth in July of that year, while also placing in lucrative handicaps at Goodwood, Chester, the July Festival and the Ebor Festival.

Tafreej wasn't unfancied on his first start for Ali Al Badwawi last January but got off to a shocking start and was eased down well before the end. Despite being off the track for almost a full year, Crowley's mount has dropped to a lenient mark and offers plenty of each-way value as his current price.

3:15pm Meydan - Al Wasl Stakes Tips

Charlie Appleby won this valuable contest with Star Of Mystery 12 months ago and I'm struggling to see how SYMBOL OF HONOUR (11/8) gets beaten in this year's renewal.

Appleby's colt went into the Coventry Stakes as one of the fancied runners, having bolted up at Lingfield on his second start. Symbol Of Honour ran on well after getting outpaced to finish a close sixth in that Grade Two, and returned to action later in the autumn with a runner-up effort in the Flying Scotsman, where he was picked off late on by Benevento.

Appleby's colt didn't take to soft ground on his final outing in the Tattersalls Stakes. Conditions should this speedy son of Havana Grey on Friday and William Buick's mount should take the power of beating.

3:50pm Meydan - Lord North Handicap Tips

Another outsider who I fancy could run well is SILVER SWORD (16/1) in this nine-furlong handicap. Dylan Cunha's five-year-old travelled nicely behind the leaders on his Meydan debut last Friday, but the gaps never opened in time and Ray Dawson's mount crossed the line full of running back in eighth.

Having been campaigned at a high level during the first half of last season, Silver Sword threatened to land all-weather pots off this reduced mark at Kempton and Southwell earlier in the winter. Cunha's stable star remains eight pounds short of the peak rating her reached at the end of 2023 and there's every chance he'll build on that encouraging effort from last week.
