Meydan Tips on February 9th - Dubai World Cup Carnival Week 6 Tips

Here are our best betting tips on week six of the Dubai World Cup Carnival. 

An interesting runner here is DESTRUCTIVE, who'll be ridden by Saffie Osbourne. Michael Bells' youngster showed good gate speed when second on his only juvenile outing at Chelmsford in November. Destructive then stepped up to nine-and-a-half furlongs on his Meydan debut last week, where he again broke and travelled well, before fading in the closing stages.

Destructive is US bred, and a three-part brother to Verrazano, who won the Wood Memorial and Haskell Stakes on dirt for Todd Pletcher, before transferring to Aiden O'Brien in 2014 and placing in both the Lockinge and Queen Anne. Given his style of racing and his breeding, this seven-furlong trip should be much more suitable and Destructive is weighted to go close in this conditions contest.

Wild Tiger tops the market here, even though he hasn't been seen since a winning debut over five furlongs at Wolverhampton back in October 2022. Saeed bin Suroor's runners have been running poorly throughout this meeting, so I'm keen to take the favourite on with MOUNTBATTEN.

Having made all to win competitive handicaps on his final two starts for Archie Watson last year, I was surprised to see Mountbatten held up on his first outing in the UAE last month, where he kept on well to finish fifth. Musabbaeh Al Muhairi will have been pleased with that Meydan debut and I'd be surprised if Mickael Barzalona didn't give this proven stayer a more confident ride, especially after being drawn low in stall three.

Charlie Appleby has completely dominated the turf races during the first five weeks of this carnival. Appleby has struck with 50% of his 26 runners, he's saddled the first and second past the post on three occasions and only four of his runners have finished outside the top four places.

Charlie has given the other trainers a chance by entering just three runners on week six. In the Dubai Trophy, GREAT TRUTH (7/4) takes on Starlust again, having finished two spots behind that rival when fourth to stablemate Star Of Mystery in the Al Wasl Stakes. Great Truth got caught in traffic that day and didn't have enough time to make up the ground. 

Starlust is respected, but given Appleby's record and the trouble he met in running last time, Great Truth offers value at his current price.

With William Buick unable to get down to 8-5, Mickael Barzalona rode favourite RULING DYNASTY (2/1) into the DRC Classic Handicap here in December. Barzalona decided to hold his mount up, but the favourite met was hampered going into the final bend and continuously forced wide down the straight. Barzalona was quick to ease Ruling Dynasty down, as Buick and Dhahabi held on to deny Scottish Anthem.

This time, Buick gets the leg-up on Ruling Dynasty, who was also having his first run for six months in that competitive handicap. Scottish Anthem drops back down in trip after a good effort behind Siskany two weeks ago, but Buick hasn't got many decisions wrong so far during this meeting and Ruling Dynasty can be backed at a decent price.
