2021 Ebor Festival Schedule – Dates, cards and race previews

Once Glorious Goodwood has come to an end, flat racing fans turn their attentions to York, as they prepare the Knavesmire for the 2021 Ebor Festival. 

Over the four days of the Ebor Festival, many prestigious prizes will be handed out. Each of the first three cards are headlined by Group One races, while the third and final day features the namesake race of the meeting, the lucrative Ebor Handicap.

Here's our preview of the Ebor Festival, including a look at all four cards and a few of the horses viewers can look forward to watching.

Day one of the Ebor Festival starts off with the Symphony Group Handicap, before the first pattern race takes place, the Group Three Acomb Stakes. St Leger hopefuls will then test their mettle in the Great Voltigeur Stakes, where Charlie Appleby's Kemari could take on High Definition and Sir Lucan.

St Mark's Basilica will then put his unbeaten season record on the line in the Juddonte International Stakes. Aidan O'Brien also has Love entered up, while Mishriff, Alcohol Free, Mohaafeth and Alenquer could make this Group One a race of the season contender.

Juvenile fillies will open the proceedings on day two of the Ebor Festival, as the Group Two Lowther Stakes is played out. The lucrative Premier Yearling Stakes is up next, before the red carpet is rolled out for Snowfall ahead of the Yorkshire Oaks.

Aidan O'Brien's filly won the Epsom Oaks by a record-breaking 16 lengths earlier in the season, and produced an equally dominant performance to win the Irish Oaks last time out. Royal Ascot winners Wonderful Tonight and Loving Dream will provide stiff competition, but Snowfall is the one they all have to catch.

Friday’s card starts off with a good quality middle distance handicap, before many of the leading stayers in the sport battle it out in the Lonsdale Cup. The Group Two Gimcrack Stakes for juveniles is up next, where Richard Hannon and Al Shaqab Racing could be dually represented by Lusail and Armor.

The third and final Group One of the Ebor Festival, the Nunthorpe Stakes headlines day three's action. King George winner Suesa tops the current market, with Dragon Symbol, Winter Power, Rohaan and Wesley Ward's raider, Golden Pal also sitting prominently in the market.

The fourth and final day at the Ebor Festival kicks off with the Group Three Strensall Stakes. Next, those who didn’t quite make the cut for the Ebor battle it out for a slightly lesser prize in the Melrose Handicap.

The Group Two City Of York Stakes then leads perfectly into the namesake race of the entire meeting, the Ebor Handicap. Four Irish raiders head the ante-post betting, with Saldier, Sonnyboyliston, MC Muldoon and Princess Zoe all sitting prominently. Away He Goes and defending champion, Fujaira Prince spearhead the home challenge, with Hamish and Ilaraab also set to line up.
