Day one of the Ebor Festival kicks off with the Symphony Group Handicap, before the first pattern-race is up for grabs in the Group Three Acomb Stakes. St Leger hopefuls will then put then test their mettle in the Great Voltigeur Stakes, before we move into the first Group One of the meeting.

The Juddmonte International Stakes is one of the most important and exciting races on the entire flat racing calendar. The 2020 edition of the Juddmonte International is shaping up into a classic, with last year’s winner, Japan set to square off with Coral-Eclipse winner Ghaiyyath, Prince Of Wales’s Stakes champion Lord North, and six-time Group One winner, Magical.

Two-year-old fillies open the proceedings on day two of the Ebor Festival, as the Group Two Lowther Stakes is put up for grabs. The lucrative Premier Yearling Stakes is up next, won emphatically last year by Mums Tipple, before we reach the Clipper Logistics Handicap.

Sadly, what could have been the titanic clash of the season will not happen at York. Enable was due to square off against runaway 1000 Guineas and Epsom Oaks winner, Love in the Yorkshire Oaks, but John Gosden and Prince Khalid have decided to go down the September Stakes route instead.

Friday’s card starts off with a good-quality middle distance handicap. Sadly, Weatherby’s Hamilton has not put up the £1m bonus stayers bonus this year, so Stradivarius will probably not travel to York to go for a third Lonsdale Cup. Punters will still have a good renewal to look forward to none-the-less, with Nayef Road likely to head the market.

The Group Two Gimcrack Stakes for juveniles is up next, before Battaash bids to defend his crown in the Nunthorpe Stakes. Charlie Hills’ charge set a track record when winning the race 12 months ago, and returns to York having broken the clock when securing a fourth King George at Goodwood. Art Power looks to be the main opposition to Battaash, with Golden Pal and A’Ali also entered up in day three’s feature.

The final afternoon of action at the Ebor Festival kicks off with the Group Three Strensall Stakes, before those who didn’t quite make the cut for the Ebor battle it out for a slightly lesser prize in the Melrose Handicap.

The City Of York Stakes, a Group Two run over seven furlongs, then leads perfectly into the namesake race of the entire meeting, the Ebor Handicap. Hamish came out on top in the Melrose Handicap 12 months ago, and will almost certainly get into the Ebor in 2020. He’ll face stiff competition from Royal Ascot winner Fujaira Prince, and other talented stayers like Trueshan, Deja and Eagles By Day.
