2023 Juddmonte International Stakes Result and Replay - Mostahdaf makes all under Dettori

Aidan O'Brien's star was looking for his five Group One win in a row, having previously won the Coral Eclipse and the Sussex Stakes. 

Paddington had two Gosden runners to worry about, with Prince Of Wales's Stakes winner, Mostahdaf being joined in the field by Falmouth Stakes heroine, Nashwa. Dante winner, The Foxes completed a small, select field for Wednesday's feature.

Ryan Moore was expected to make the running aboard Paddington, but it was Frankie Dettori who showed first, guiding Mostahdaf into an early lead. The field quickly became a little stung out behind the leader, with Paddington leading the charge ahead of Nashwa and The Foxes.

Turning into the straight, Frankie chanced a glance under his shoulder to see where Paddington was. Mostahdaf began to drift over towards the stands side of the track, but the early pace the leader set seemed to have done the trick, as both Paddington and Nashwa came under pressure.

Hollie Doyle asked Nashwa for an effort, but the Falmouth Stakes winner couldn't find an extra gear over this longer trip. Eyes were then drawn to Paddington as the favourite latched onto Mostahdaf's tail. Yet, Aidan O'Brien's star couldn't quite summon the strength to reel Mostahdaf in, and Frankie Dettori raised his arm in celebration as the winner crossed the line.

Fair play to Frankie, who got his fractions all wrong on Gregory in the previous contest, but still had the confidence to execute front-running tactics in one of the season's biggest races. Nashwa eventually came through to finish third ahead of Paddington, who might have been feeling the effects of a long, hard season.
