2020 Juddmonte International Stakes Favourite
Ghaiyyath heads the betting for this year’s race, and he’ll likely get pushed into odds-on favouritsm before the off. Charlie Appleby’s charge has won two Group Ones this season. First in the Coronation Cup, where he made all to win on the Rowley Mile, before repeating the track over this shorter distance in the Coral Eclipse.

2020 Juddmonte International Stakes Form Guide
Ghaiyyath will face stiff competition from Lord North, who has produced two of the best performances of the season so far. First at Haydock, beating Elarqam in the Brigadier Gerard, before running away with the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot.
With stablemate Love likely to take on Enable in the Yorkshire Oaks, Magical could be switched to the Juddmonte International. Aidan O'Brien's mare collected the sixth Group One of her illustrious career in the Tattersalls Gold Cup last time out, and will be gaining weight on the male rivals around her in the market.
Japan could join stablemate Magical in the field. O'Brien's charge won this race 12 months ago, but his form so far this season has been surprisingly poor.
John Gosden could also have two runners in the race, with Lord North's stablemate Mishriff likely to get a run. Mishriff struck in the French Derby when last seen, a performance which certainly warrants a crack at the Juddmonte International.
Having run into traffic problems at a crucial stage in the Sussex Stakes, Andrew Balding and his team have decided to step Kameko back up in trip at York. Oisin Murphy’s mount seemed to stay for most of the trip in the Derby, and his half-brother Roaring Lion won this race two years ago.
Aspetar cruised to victory in the York Stakes over course-and-distance, and could step up to Group One company. Thunderous and Highest Ground finished first and second in the recent Dante Stakes at York, and could represent the three-year-old crop.
Juddmonte International Stakes Tips
This race is all about Ghaiyyath, who will go straight to the front and set a ferocious pace in the middle sections of the race. Although the stats show he did slow down a little in the final stages of both the Coronation Cup and the Coral-Eclipse, he’s already drawn the sting out of many highly-rated rivals, and none were strong enough to bridge the gap.
The question now is, is anyone strong enough to hang onto Ghaiyyath’s coattails and sweep past Charlie Appleby’s front-runner in the final furlong. The only one I think has a chance of executing those tactics is LORD NORTH, and I’d going to side with John Gosden’s improving four-year-old.
If you compare the times of the Coral-Eclipse and the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes – which Lord North won convincingly – you’ll see that Ghaiyyath’s time was just over a second quicker. That time was set around more of a speed track in Sandown, on good-to-firm ground, though. Lord North clocked his time on good ground at Ascot, which makes his effort all the more impressive.
Every single horse in the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes set their fastest section in the penultimate furlong, and Lord North still managed to look miles quicker than several really highly rated rivals. John Gosden’s gelding has course form on his side, having won here in the rescheduled Brigadier Gerard Stakes, and I think he has the strength to give Ghaiyyath a real run for his money.
Verdict
Ghaiyyath is obviously going to be very hard to beat, but I think LORD NORTH has the cruising speed and the turn of foot to give the favourite a real headache.
