2020 Golden Rose Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips

The Golden Rose is one of the feature Group 1 races during the Sydney Spring Carnival and it has kick-started many top careers.

Held for the early-season three-year-olds, the Golden Rose shows off the talented types which looked good as juveniles.

Heading the 2019 betting market is Exceedance, which made an impression last season but the more household name in the betting is Yes Yes Yes, Castelvecchio and Microphone.

All three had big two-year-old seasons and are looking to make the progression into the three-year-old ranks.

It’s not easy to do so it will be interesting to see which thoroughbreds make the next step up. The winner of the Golden Rose will add their name to a long list of champions.

2020 Golden Rose Best Bet – Exceedance @ 4.80

Exceedance certainly has some hype following him after only two starts as a juvenile. The Hawkes-trained colt was a winner on debut before running third at Rosehill.

His run for third last start was an incredible effort and his sectionals were quite outstanding. He didn’t win, however, which is a negative but it has hard not to be impressed with that.

Bookmakers quickly firmed his odds for the Golden Rose despite the form out of that 2YO Handicap not stacking up well since.

He’s still out top pick on talent alone and if he can produce a more professional effort come race day, the 9.00 on offer could look silly when it’s all said and done.

2020 Golden Rose Best Each Way – Yes Yes Yes @ 5.50

Chris Waller lines up the three-year-old colt which made a good impression during his juvenile campaign.

The son of Rubick was a winner of three from five starts, which included a win in the Group 2 Todman Stakes. He subsequently finished seventh in the Golden Slipper but the conditions weren’t ideal.

He has been given a trial at Rosehill to prepare for his upcoming season and given his scope, there’s plenty of room for improvement in 2019.

Bookmakers are offering generous odds for the Waller-trained runner which should mature into a nice three-year-old type.

2020 Golden Rose Best Roughie – Castelvecchio @ 11.00

Castelvecchio will get back in the run but if they go quickly up front, the talented colt could finish over the top of them.

Trained by Richard Litt, the Group 1-winning runner will be wanting more ground this season but he's still a chance to win here.

That was a nice resuming run for fourth and punters are getting double-figure odds for the quality type.

Stick with him as he will win soon.

Verdict

The Golden Rose is always a tough race but we’re going with three quality colts. Exceedance doesn’t have the form on the board but looks to have more speed than many in the field.

Yes Yes Yes and Castelvecchio are experienced customers and should prove the biggest challengers to the favourite.
