2021 Glorious Goodwood Preview

The main event on the opening day of racing at Glorious Goodwood is the Goodwood Cup. Stradivarius has won the last four renewals of this great staying race, and John Gosden's star will have to defeat classy rivals like Spanish Mission, Trueshan and Santiago if he wants to make it five in a row.

Some of the best juveniles around will clash in the Vintage Stakes at Goodwood on Tuesday, before many of the finest seven-furlong exponents square off in the Group Two Lennox Stakes. Day one viewers also have three good quality handicaps and a competitve maiden to enjoy.

Day two's card features two lucrative Group Three races. First, fillies and mares will meet in the Oak Tree Stakes, before some of the quickest juveniles around take each other on over five furlongs in the Molecomb Stakes.

Wednesday's highlight is the thrilling Sussex Stakes, a Group One which was first run way back in 1841. Poetic Flare currently heads Palace Pier in the Goodwood betting, with St Mark's Basilica, Alcohol Free and Lope Y Fernandez also sitting prominently in the market.

Fillies and mares take centre-stage in day three's feature race, the Nassau Stakes. James Fanshawe's Breeders' Cup winner, Audarya tops the ante-post market, but she could face stiff competition from recent Falmouth Stakes winner Snow Lantern, top five-year-old Lady Bowthorpe and Aidan O'Brien's duo of Joan Of Arc and Mother Earth.

The Group Two Richmond Stakes and the Gordon Stakes, a key trial for the St Leger, will also take place on Thursday. Day three racegoers will also take in the Kincsem and Halnaker Handicaps, as well as a thrilling nursery handicap.

The red carpet will be rolled out for Battaash on day four, as Charlie Hills' star sprinter bids to win a fifth King George Stakes. Battaash could have top three-year-olds Dragon Symbol and Winter Power to contend with, as well as Came From The Dark, Liberty Beach and dual-Group One winner, Glass Slippers.

The Golden Mile Handicap will likely prove the biggest betting race on day four, and it's Royal Hunt Cup winner Real World who currently dominates the market. The Thoroughbred Stakes will also take place on Friday, along with the popular Goodwood Handicap.

The fifth and final day of racing at Glorious Goodwood is headlined by one of the sport's most prestigious handicaps, the Steward's Cup. Kings' Stand Stakes runner-up, Arecibo could carry top-weight into this year's edition, while Summerghand will attempt to become the fourth horse to successfully defend the Stewards' Cup.

The big Graded race on Saturday is the Lillie Langtry Stakes, where Alpinista and Albaflora could face off for the first time. The consolation race for the Stewards' Cup opens day fives' card, before viewers watch another excellent renewal of the Summer Handicap.
