The penultimate card of Glorious Goodwood is headlined by the thrilling King George Stakes sprint. This Group Two was first held at Goodwood in 1911 and legendary sprinters like Abernant, Right Boy, Lochsong and Battaash feature on the illustrious roll of honour.

In terms of ratings and group prizes won, this is a fairly poor renewal of the King George Stakes. That doesn't mean it won't provide excellent entertainment and the bookies are having difficulty splitting the majority of the runners.

The top two from last month's Coral Charge, Mitbaahy and Raasel top the market. One of the few Group Two winners in the field, Equilateral sits prominently in the betting. As does stablemate and former Stewards' Cup winner, Khaadem.

Acklam Express was last seen finishing third in the Kings' Stand Stakes, despite going off at 200/1. Charlie Appleby's Lazuli can also be backed at a single-figure price.

Frankie Dettori again partners Czech raider Ponntos, having won a Group Three aboard Miroslav Nieslanik's four-year-old in May. Cattura, Claredon House, Existent and Vertiginous also feature in the Glorious Goodwood field.

Goodwood racecourse is one of the fastest tracks in the country. The King George is always run at a rapid pace, and the fast ground that's expected on Friday will suit strong travellers with a potent turn-of-foot.

The two most likely front-runners, Ponntos and Khaadem have been drawn down the centre in six and seven, so it looks like the field might come down the centre of the track, which gives everyone a fair squeak.

The way this race is likely to be run should really suit MITBAAHY, a horse who I've been following all season.

I was on Roger Varian's sprinter when he won the Tangerine Trees Conditions Stakes at Hamilton, and again in the Scurry Stakes at Sandown, where Mitbaahy looked a class above his rivals.

I deserted David Egan's mount for Raasel in the Coral Charge, after Mitbaahy was drawn poorly in stall one. Hold-up horses need plenty of luck in-running to win from all the rail at Sandown. Mitbaahy travelled best throughout that race, but by the time a gap opened up on the rail, it was too late, Raasel had given the runner-up the slip.

Considering the traffic problems he was forced to suffer through that day, Mitbaahy picked up well in the closing stages and was only beaten a neck. Varian's three-year-old remains a sprinter firmly on the upgrade and Mitbaahy will be getting four pounds from his older rivals in this Group Two.
