The final Group One contest staged during Glorious Goodwood is the Nassau Stakes. This historic race was first held on day three back in 1840 and has been won by legendary fillies and mares like Pretty Polly, Roussalka and Midday.

Topping the market we find Nashwa, who's only defeat this season came in the Epsom Oaks. John Gosden's filly was last seen claiming an impressive victory in the Prix de Diane and Nashwa currently dominates the Nassau Stakes betting.

Three-year-olds get a handy weight allowance from their elders in this Group One. Pretty Polly fourth, Concert Hall and another Ballydoyle runner, History will represent the Classic generation. As will Tom Clover's Rogue Millennium, Kevin Ryan's Fonteyn and Johhny Murtagh's raider, One For Bobby.

William Haggas' duo of Lilac Road and My Astra sit closest to Nashwa in the betting. Dreamloper and Ville De Grace are also likely to attract support. Richard Hannon's Aristia completes the classy field.

I don't think the 4/5 about Nashwa is unwarranted. John Gosden's filly ran well when third in the Oaks and held on gamely to secure her first Group One out in France. This trip seems to be ideal and she'll be getting nine pounds from the older fillies and mares behind her in the market.

There is, however, plenty of depth to this Group One. There's certainly value to be found when looking beyond the favourite and the one I'm keen to side with at an each-way price is the oldest runner in the field, DREAMLOPER (Tipped at 10/1).

Ed Walker's filly made good progress last season. The highlight of which was that five-length thrashing of future Group Two winner, Lights on in the Valiant Stakes at Ascot.

On her 2022 reappearance, Dreamloper outbattled Ville De Grace and Lilac Road to win the Dahlia Stakes. Kieran Shoemark's mount then claimed a surprise Group One victory in the Prix d'Ispahan, where she hit the front two furlongs from home and comfortably held a handful of very classy colts on the run to the line.

Walker's filly was well-beaten on her only start in Ireland last season and suffered a similar fate in the Pretty Polly Stakes. That was Dreamloper's first start over ten furlongs, but it wasn't the trip that was her undoing. Shoemark said his filly didn't enjoy soft ground, which is understandable, as he best performances have come on good and fast surfaces.

Walker's raider was only beaten six lengths at the Curragh, despite coming under pressure before the bend, and kept on running right through the line. Quicker ground will certainly help Dreamloper see out this extended trip and at 10/1, this Group One winner represents excellent value.

Verdict

2022 Nassau Stakes

The ground went against Dreamloper (Tipped at 10/1) in the Pretty Polly Stakes last time out. Conditions at Goodwood should be perfect this week and Ed Walker's mare should have a big say in proceedings.
