Millions of sports fans and betting enthusiasts from around the world had their eyes fixed on Aintree this afternoon, as 34 talented chasers took part in the 2025 Grand National.

12 months after his superb victory, I Am Maximus attempted to emulate legends like Red Rum and Tiger Roll by winning back-to-back Grand Nationals. Willie Mullins' star was forced to carry top-weight this time around, but some red-hot stable form earlier in the week saw punters back I Am Maximus into Grand National favouritism.

Owner, JP McManus played a strong hand, with Iroko and the well-backed Perceval Legallois featuring near the head of the betting. Gavin Cromwell also ran Stumptown and Vanillier as he attempted to complete a Gold Cup and Grand National double. Hewick, Intense Raffles and Minella Cocooner also featured in a strong Irish challenge.

Coral Gold Cup winner, Kandoo Kid was another of this morning's market movers. Hyland was attempting to hand Nicky Henderson his first Grand National win. Rachael Blackmore's mount, Minella Indo and Gordon Elliott's challenger, Three Card Brag also came in for support during the build-up to Saturday's main event.

Thankfully, the Grand National got off to a good start and Broadway Boy was the first to show. Paul Townend positioned I Am Maximus on the inside again alongside Vanillier. Hewick and Bravemansgame went forward from their wide positions on the track.

Duffle Coat bowed out at the third fences, and hampered stablemate Coko Beach. Iroko and Intense Raffles were positioned near the rear early on, along with Royale Pagaille.

Three Card Brag and Beauport moved forward to keep tabs on Broadway Boy. As the leader jumped Valentines in the lead, the well-backed Perceval Legallois unseated Mark Walsh.

With the first circuit complete, Intense Raffles and Royale Pagaille were pulled up. Appreciate It suffered a heavy fall, and brought down Harry Cobden and Kandoo Kid.

The field reached Valentines for a second time and Broadway Boy, who had taken a few chances, crashed out at the front of the field. Beauport took over from his stablemate, as Nick Rockett and Grangeclare West made forward moves.

Iroko and Minella Indo started to make progress from the rear as the field approached the final three fences. Hewick, Bravemansgame and Beauport began to pay the price for being too close to the pace. The eyes were drawn to defending champion I Am Maximus, as the Willie Mullins battalion took control of the race.

Paul Townend pushed the favourite into the lead, but he was tracked every step of the way by Patrick Mullins and Nick Rockett. Grangeclare West tried his best to get into contention, with Iroko finishing well from off the pace.

Rounding the elbow, Nick Rockett began to gain the upper hand. I Am Maximus battled on bravely, but it was Patrick Mullins who punched the air in celebration as he won the Grand National for his father, Willie.

Grangeclare West completed a 1-2-3 for Willie Mullins, with Iroko making it into the top four. Mullins also saddled the fifth across the line too, Meetingofthewaters.
