1000 Guineas Betting

We look through the betting for Sunday’s 1000 Guineas, with Quadrilateral and Love already making waves in Sunday’s Classic market.

The final day of Newmarket’s Guineas Festival is headlined by the 1000 Guineas. For over two centuries, the finest fillies of their generations have taken to the hallowed turf of the Rowley Mile, and battled it out for the honour of being crowned 1000 Guineas winner.

Quadrilateral announced herself as one of the most promising fillies in training by winning the Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket in the autumn. Roger Charlton’s charge has sat atop the betting for the 2020 1000 Guineas ever since, and bet365 make Quadrilateral their 3/1 favourite to extended her unbeaten record into a fourth race on Sunday.

Leading that chasing pack is Love, who plummeted down the betting after Aidan O’Brien confirmed it was Newmarket, and not the Irish 1000 Guineas, on her agenda. Love could only finish third when she clashed with Quadrilateral in the Fillies’ Mile, but the master of Ballydoyle has always held this well-bred filly in high regard, and she’ll be O’Brien’s leading light this weekend.

Sadly, both Powerful Breeze and Daahyeh have been ruled out of the 1000 Guineas with injury. Albigna sat prominently in the betting for much of the off-season too, until Jessica Harrington announced she would go for the Irish 1000 Guineas instead. Harrington will send Millisle to Newmarket for a crack at the 1000 Guineas too, and last year’s shock Cheveley Park Stakes winner has been backed into a single-figure price.

Peaceful and So Wonderful look set to join stablemate Love in the field, as Aidan O’Brien looks for his fourth victory in the last five years. Cloak Of Spirits finished a close third in last year’s Shadwell Rockfel Stakes, and Richard Hannon will be hoping his filly who can follow in the footsteps of Billesdon Brook, who carried odds of 66/1 into the 1000 Guineas winners’ enclosure two years ago.

Dual Grade Two-winning sprinter, Raffle Prize will step up to a mile for the first time this weekend, if Mark Johnston decided to declare his runner in the final field. Boomer and Summer Romance bolster the British contingent, while Irish raiders Alpine Star and Etoile remaining in the entries for the 1000 Guineas.
