2000 Guineas Odds

We take a look through the early betting for Saturday’s 2000 Guineas, with Pinatubo the hot-favourite to land the first Classic of the season at Newmarket.

It may be a little later in the season than organisers had originally planned, but the first Classics of the British flat racing season will hit our screens this weekend. Before the fillies take centre-stage on Sunday, the best three-year-old colts of their generation will take to Rowley Mile and fight for supremacy in Saturday’s 2000 Guineas.

Leading the betting by a considerable distance is last year’s top two-year-old, Pinatubo. Charlie Appleby’s colt swept all aside during 2019, ending his unbeaten campaign with a stunning victory in the Vincent O’Brien National Stakes, and a hard-fought triumph in the Dewhurst. William Hill make Pinatubo their 10/11 favourite to claim Classic glory on Saturday, and the Newmarket faithful will rise as one if the Godolphin flag-bearer can maintain his 100% career record.

Aidan O’Brien has saddled the winner of the 2000 Guineas in four of the last five seasons, and his top colt, Arizona leads the chasing pack. Runner-up to Pinatubo in two Group Ones last autumn, Arizona can be found at a top price of 6/1, as he looks to turn the tables on his rival.

Kameko put a few of O’Brien raiders in their place when powering to victory in the Vertem Futurity Trophy at Newcastle last season, and Andrew Balding’s charge is a 7/1 shot to make it two Group One wins in a row this weekend. Kinross, despite a poor showing behind Kameko at Newcastle, has been well-backed for the Guineas since the rescheduled date was announced, with William Hill listing Ralph Beckett’s colt at 12/1.

Military March fought off Godolphin stablemate, Al Suhail to win the Autumn Stakes last season, and both currently sit at 16/1 in the betting for Saturday’s main event at the Guineas Festival. Wichita, Mogul and Royal Dornoch look most likely to join Arizona and bolster the Ballydoyle contingent this weekend, with the three Aidan O’Brien runners quoted at 16/1, 20/1 and 33/1 respectively.

It’s doubtful whether we’ll have any French representatives at Newmarket on Saturday, with Victor Ludorum and Alson squaring off in the French equivalent of the 2000 Guineas on Monday. Siskin also features in the betting for this weekend’s main event, but Ger Lyons has stated the Irish 2000 Guineas will be his early-season objective.

Roger Teal is hopeful that Kenzai Warrior can emulate stablemate Tip Two Win, who followed Saxon Warrior home as a 50/1 outsider in the 2018 running of this fabled Classic. William Hill list Teal’s Horris Hill Stakes winner as a 25/1 shot to win on Saturday, with the likes of Mums Tipple and Positive sitting just behind him in the 2000 Guineas betting.
