Hong Kong Vase Best Bet - Exultant @ 2.20

This Tony Cruz-trained gelding tuned up for another Hong Kong Vase with soft second-up victory in the Group Two Jockey Club Cup on November 17 under Zac Purton.

Exultant was able to roll to the lead and was basically unchallenged throughout as the preparations towards this event stepped up.

The horse has been ultra-consistent since winning this race last year, going down just twice.

Exultant is the best bet in the 2019 Hong Kong Vase and beat a stronger field last year when denying Lys Gracieux, the 2019 Cox Plate champion and he put four four lengths on the 2019 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner in Waldgeist via that same event.

This lightly-raced Japanese mare that arrives following a victory in the Group One Queen Elizabeth II Cup at Kyoto on November 10.

Has twice placed behind the champion Almond Eye which was back in 2018, which is great form lines to take into this event.

You have to respect the Japanese gallopers wherever they take to the track and there is a sense of timing to this one coming third-up off her biggest career win so far.

Hong Kong Vase Best Value Bet - Aspetar @ 29.00

Aspetar is a son to a three-time group one winner in Al Kazeem (who was also trained by Roger Charlton) won the Preis von Europa, a 2400m Group One in Germany on September 22.

He enjoyed a nice run just off the two leaders there and following that was able to put the race away smartly without any danger.

The four-year-old is one of the outsiders of the field but if he can bring his European form to Sha Tin he'll be a genuine contender.
