The Hong Kong Sprint is run over 1200m at Sha Tin and is the second of four Group 1s run on the Hong Kong International Race Day.

Heading the market for the 2021 edition is the exciting Japanese sprinter Pixie Knight.

This three-year-old did step up to the mile via the Group 1 NHK Mile Cup in May, but faded out of the event, with this colt's sharp turn-of-foot much better suited to the shorter journeys.

A son of Maurice, a three-time winner in Hong Kong, Pixie Knight exploded away to win the Group 1 Sprinters Stakes at Nakayama on October 3, announcing himself as a top line sprinter in the process.

Given he was saved up with cover to produce that last effort, the query here is barrier eight and whether they push forward or snag back a pair or two, as otherwise, this isn't a vintage edition among the locals.

On raw talent, this son of Sacred Falls is one of the rising stars of the Hong Kong sprinting ranks, a galloper that was unbeaten in five outings last season, winning the Sha Tin Vase before a spell.

As many gallopers find when facing the elite so early in their careers, it's a much different race pressure from the outset, which had Courier Wonder behaving like a drunken sailor on November 21.

The subsequent trial was sound and Joao Moreira sticks, while of those coming out of the key lead-up via the Jockey Club Sprint, this contender could well be open to the most improvement from that.
