The Hong Kong Vase is run over 2400m at Sha Tin and is the first of four Group 1s run on the Hong Kong International Race Day. Who will win the showpiece from nine contenders?

Best Bet - Lebensstil

Japanese visitors have won three out of the last four editions of the Hong Kong Vase and via three-year-old Lebensstil, they have a good chance of building on that strong recent record.

The son of Reel Steel has won three of six starts, with his last two victories coming at Group level and he ticked the 2200m box in the latest when saluting via the Group 2 Asahi Hai St.Lite Kinen.

Joao Moreira stays aboard from that brilliant Nakayama victory and 'Magic Man' also loves the Hong Kong Vase, with the champion hoop riding three of the last seven winners of this Group 1.

Next Best Bet - Junko

Andre Fabre and Maxime Guyon combined with 2014 Hong Kong Vase winner Flintshire, and the French pair team up herewith Junko, who arrives of here of his first Group 1 triumph.

An honest frontrunner who had recorded two Group successes in France before that last start win in Germany, he did run a strong 2400m when leading throughout via that recent victory.

With three wins this year, Junko is ticking over well for a tilt at this 12-furlong feature and while he's drawn barrier eight, the four-year-old should be able to cross early and take up the running.

Value Bet - La City Blanche

The local Hong Kong staying ranks are generally quite thin, which has seen overseas visitors dominate this 2400m feature, with only three of the 29 winners prepared in Hong Kong.

One of the local outsiders is La City Blanche and while his class will be tested against some of the classier internationals, he appears to be crying out for the extra distance of this Group 1.

Zac Purton and Tony Cruz teamed up with Exultant to win the 2018 Hong Kong Vase, and with a platform to peak after getting warm late over 2000m last start, he could be the blowout.
