The Hong Kong Vase is run over 2400m at Sha Tin and is the first of four Group 1s run on the Hong Kong International Race Day.

In 2023, Without A Fight became the 12th horse in history to complete a Caulfield/Melbourne Cup winning double and after a long layoff, he returned in The Champion Stakes.

The son of Teofilo was good in that Flemington fresh performance and he has won his only two second-up runs for the Freedman yard, which includes his Caulfield Cup success over this trip.

It's a competitive edition of the Hong Kong Vase and this seasoned campaigner may be the one with the best turn-of-foot in the field, which could prove to be the difference here.

Next Best Bet - Iresine

The seven-year-old was good without luck last time out when contesting the Qipco Champion Stakes at Ascot, where he overcame traffic to record a fourth-of-eleven finish over ten furlongs.

Iresine has put together a tidy record, with 15 wins and five placings from 24 starts, and the rise in distance is in his favour for this feature tilt (eight-time winner over 2400m).

Firm ground is the main query here for the French visitor, as he's mainly raced on rain affected tracks, however, Iresine is a proven Group 1 performer who maps for a soft run in transit.

Value Bet - Marquisat

This son of Zarak needs to atone from a disappointing effort in the Prix Du Conseil De Paris, however, his previous form was consistent and he's still a lightly raced four-year-old.

Marquisat is trained by Andre Fabre, who prepared last year's Hong Kong Vase winner (Junko) and this youngster was narrowly defeated by his stablemate only two starts back.

He arrives to his outing off what was almost a five-month absence, so he'll strip fitter for this Group 1 attempt and he does bring a string of shorter starting prices from previous outings.
