Galway Festival Day Seven Tips - Sunday 31st July

Race 3 - Eileen Kelly Memorial Chase

After a solid run in the Galway Plate earlier in the week, the stage could be set for BATTLEOVERDOYEN to end his long wait for another win.

Davy Russell's mount worked his way back into contention that day after being hampered early on. In the end, Battleoverdoyen was too far back to make a telling challenge, but Gordon Elliott will have been pleased to see his charge stay on and finish fifth.

If this was a handicap, Battleoverdoyen would be lumbered with 11-12 and he'd have to give Augusta Gold and Politesse 11 and 13 pounds respectively. Elliott's nine-year-old will only be carrying 11-3 on Sunday and he'll only give seven pounds to his two closest rivals.

Race 4 - Lord Hemphill Memorial Handicap Chase Tips

Another who'll be running at Galway racecourse for the second time this week is AJ Martin's SIL VER KLASS, who ran well when sixth behind Darkened on her first start over hurdles for some time.

Sil Ver Klass progressed nicely over fences during the regular season, winning at Fairyhouse in January before placing third twice in big spring Festival handicaps at Fairyhouse and Punchestown. Martin's eight-year-old still looks well-treated over the larger obstacles and Jack Foley's claimer means she'll be getting weight from the entire field.

Race 5 - Ahonoora Handicap Tips

I'm hoping that the proven class of SAN ANDREAS, combined with Hugh Horgan's claimer, will help Joseph O'Brien's top-weight mount a telling challenge in this wide-open handicap.

San Andreas has been running in very competitive conditions races for the majority of this season, with his best result coming on All-Weather Finals Day at Newcastle, where O'Brien's raider was beaten a nose by 113-rated My Oberon. San Andreas is rated 108 on the all-weather, but Horgan's seven-pound allowance means O'Brien's six-year-old is effectively running off 93 today. If he breaks well, he could be a big player.

Race 8 - Fr. Breen Memorial Flat Racing Tips

Willie Mullins will, again, end the Galway Festival as the leading trainer and he could be celebrating after Sunday's curtain closer.

NO RISK NO FUN absolutely destroyed plenty more experienced rivals at Wexford in May, powering to a nine-length victory without ever coming off the bridle. Patrick Mullins takes the ride and dropping back to two miles won't be a problem.
