Irish Champions Weekend Tips - Day One Tips at Leopardstown

Race 1 - Ingabelle Stakes Tips

Having run reasonably well on debut over five furlongs, NO SPEAK ALEXANDER was pushed right up to seven-and-a-half next time out. Jessica Harrington's filly saw out the trip brilliantly on heavy ground, beating a future Group Three winner by over six lengths.

Shane Foley's mount ran pretty well on her pattern-race debut out in Deauville, finishing fourth behind Fev Rover after swerving a little down the home straight. This looks a bit drop in class and she should be very hard to beat.

Race 2 - Petingo Handicap Tips

Although there are some classy horses at the head of the weights here, I think WINNER TAKES ITALL has an excellent each-way chance with just 8-07 to carry.

Rated 116 over hurdles, Joseph O'Brien's gelding has won a maiden during this flat season, before running a couple of decent races in lucrative 10-furlong handicaps. Being a National Hunt horse, you'd have thought this step up in trip would suit, and seven-pound claimer, Dylan McMonagle rode a winner for O'Brien on Thursday afternoon.

Race 3 - Matron Stakes Tips

A really fascinating race this, with both Jessica Harrington and Johnny Murtagh coming in double-handed. The betting, however, is headed by the top two from the Irish 1000 Guineas earlier in the season, and both make compelling cases.

PEACEFUL got the better of Fancy Blue over a mile that day. Donnacha O'Brien's filly went on to turn the tables on Peaceful in the Prix de Diane, before following up in the Nassau Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.

Despite her recent successes, Peaceful comfortably saw off Fancy Blue to win that Classic, displaying a smart turn-of-foot on firm ground. Aidan O'Brien's filly didn't run badly out in Chantilly, but she didn't have much left in the tank in the closing stages that day. This drop in trip will suit her more than Fancy Blue, and I think Peaceful is the one to back at the current prices.

Race 4 - Champions Juvenile Stakes Tips

Having finished quite a distance ahead of two of the horses just behind him in the market when they last met, CADILLAC looks a very solid proposition in this Group Two.

Jessica Harrington's colted cruised to a nine-length victory on debut here at Leopardstown, and only went down by half-a-length in the Group Two Futurity Stakes last month.

Cadillac traveled best behind the leader that day, but had to switch right to find a path to the post. On soft ground around a testing track in the Curragh, Cadillac was narrowly edged out of things by Mac Swiney, who looks a big middle-distance horse in the making. Cadillac seems more of a speedy miler, so good ground around Leopardstown seems ideal.

Race 6 - Boomerang Stakes Tips

Two British raiders head the betting here, and I'm going to side firmly with CENTURY DREAM, who's been in the form of his life this season.

Simon Crisford's six-year-old comfortably beat some highly rated rivals at Newbury on his reappearance. After a decent showing behind Persian King out in France, Century Dream bolted up at Goodwood, beating Sir Busker and Regal Reality in the Celebration Mile by four lengths.

If William Buick's mount is still at the top of his game, I can't see any of the runners in this field being strong enough to stop him.

Race 7 - Paddy Power Stakes Tips

Cormorant E/W5:15pm Paddy Power 'Is It 2021 Yet?' Stakes (Group 3) 1m4fGET 12/1 HERE

Aidan O'Brien has chosen to send Tiger Moth here instead of the St Leger, and clearly has plenty going for him. On this occasion, though, I'd rather side with overlooked stablemate CORMORANT, as he steps up in trip.

On his reappearance, O'Brien's charge held off future Royal Ascot winner Russian Emperor to win the Derby Trial here at Leopardstown. O'Brien decided he had enough ammunition for Epsom, though, instead saving Cormorant for the Ebor Festival, where James Doyle's mount faded back to fourth in the Dante, having cut out the early running.

The rain-softened ground may not have suited Cormorant that day, and I'm sure he'll take well to this step up in trip. Both of his career wins have come around this track and, at 12/1, he looks a cracking each-way bet.

Race 8 - Sovereign Path Handicap Tips

Prince Of Naples E/W5:50pm Irish Stallion Farms EBF 'Sovereign Path' Handicap (Premier Handicap) 7fGET 16/1 HERE

A wide-open end to the card, and I'm going to take a chance on PRINCE OF NAPLES, who's drawn nicely on the inside. Sheila Lavery's three-year-old has been beaten in two Listed races over seven furlongs this season.

On his final juvenile start, Robbie Colgan's mount hacked up in an 11k contest at Dundalk, and placed fourth in a hugely-competitive Auction Stakes at the Curragh. Prince Of Naples is completely unexposed at Handicap level, and could make his pattern-race experience count.
