2021 Irish Champions Weekend Day Two Tips

Race 2 - Blandford Stakes Tips

For the first time in eight starts, LOVE drops below Group One company, following an underwhelming performance in the Juddmonte International. Maybe it was the excellence of Mishriff that made Love's performance look rather tame but, by the standard's Aidan O'Brien's filly has set in recent starts, a six-length defeat was rather disappointing.

Prior to that run, Love had clocked RPRs in the 120s on all of her last four starts, including when she won the Prince Of Wales's Stakes on her first start of the season. Like Thundering Nights, Love has a Group One-winners penalty to contend with, but she remains much the best horse in this race and any price better than Evens should be snapped up.

Race 3 - Flying Five Stakes Tips

Glass Slippers comes alive during the autumn and Kevin Ryan's mare can retain her crown. Winter Power ran out an excellent winner of the Nunthorpe, and the form of that race was boosted when runner-up Emaraaty Ana won the Sprint Cup.

The consistent Dragon Symbol cannot be ruled out. Neither can Jack Davidson's Mooniesta, who ran out a good winner of the Saphire Stakes last time out. As you can probably tell, I'm finding it very hard to split the leading contenders, so I'm going to take a small each-way punt on FRENETIC at a massive price.

Not for the first time this season, Ger Lyons' filly put in a poor showing last time out, finishing tenth in a Listed contest having drifted markedly in the betting. Twice in her short career so far, however, she's bounced back from average runs with victories. Although this is a big jump in class, Frenetic is a natural over five furlongs and first-time blinkers could make a massive difference.

The solid bet here is certainly AGARTHA, who's improved with each of her six starts this season. Joseph O'Brien's filly made all to win the Silver Flash Stakes at Leopardstown, and employed similar tactics when holding off Sunset Shiraz to land the Debutante Stakes.

Homeless Songs picked off Agartha to win a maiden on debut, but Dermot Weld's filly hasn't been seen since then, and Agartha has shown plenty of improvement in subsequent starts. For me, she's the leading contender.

Race 5 - National Stakes Tips

The bookies think Point Lonsdale is miles clear of the chasing pack in this Group One. Yet, I'm still not convinced by the form of any of his Irish wins and I'm going to take him on with Charlie Appleby's raider, NATIVE TRAIL.

This imposing son of Oasis Dream is unbeaten in two starts, whopping a future Group Two winner by four lengths on debut. William Buick's mount was then keen early in the Superlative Stakes and took a while to pick up, but managed to stay on and claim a narrow victory.

The runner-up that day, Masekela has since won the Denford Stakes, beating yesterday's Champagne Stakes winner Bayside Boy, so Native Trail did well to win that while still looking a bit colty. Appleby has a strong recent record in the National Stakes, and I fancy Native Trail could upset the hot favourite.

Race 6 - Super Auctions Sale Stakes Tips

British raiders have dominated this race in recent times, so it's no surprise to see them all well found in the betting. Michael Bell won this with Stone Circle two years ago, and he looks to have another good shot with ADJUVANT.

Oisin Murphy's mount won at Chester on debut, before impressing with a two-length triumph under a penalty at Salisbury. Adjuvant then had a tricky draw in stall one to deal with on her handicap debut at Glorious Goodwood, and got swamped late on as he tried to maintain his challenge. That wasn't a bad run, though, considering Adjuvant was drawn poorly, and he's already proven his stamina over this sort of trip.
