Albigna’s accomplishments in 2019 helped Jessica Harrington’s charge end 2019 as the joint-highest rated juvenile filly in the sport.

Shane Foley’s mount bounced back from a poor run in the Moyglare Stud Stakes with an excellent victory in the Prix Marcel Boussac during the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe meeting. Albigna then ran on gamely for fourth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf, despite a terrible draw out in stall ten.

Paddy Power make Albigna their 7/4 favourite for Saturday’s feature race, and many are tipping Harrington’s charge to get the job done in the Irish 1000 Guineas.

2020 Irish 1000 Guineas Runners

Jessica Harrington enjoyed a tremendous campaign with her juvenile fillies last term, and Albigna could be joined by a couple of her stablemates. Alpine Star, who hasn’t run since late-august, currently sits third in the Irish 1000 Guineas betting, with Cayenne Pepper a little further adrift on 12/1.

Aidan O’Brien won the British 1000 Guineas with his sole entrant, Love this weekend. The master of Ballydoyle has plenty more arrows to fire at the Irish equivalent of this Classic on Saturday, with the beautifully bred Peaceful splitting the two Harrington fillies at the top of the market.

So Wonderful and Tango both placed in Group One company last season, and look likely to fly the Ballydoyle flag. Passion and Love Lockett could also make an appearance.

Aidan’s son, Donnacha O’Brien could have his first Classic runner this weekend in the form of Fancy Blue, who was sent to Donnacha from Aidan’s yard during the winter. The elder of O’Brien’s two sons, Joseph could also be represented by A New Dawn and New York Girl - the top two from last year’s Weld Park Stakes.

Mick Halford’s Ridenza could enter day two of the Irish Guineas Festival on the back of a solitary juvenile victory at Leopardstown. In contrast, Ger Lyon’s Soul Search was highly tried at the highest level last term, and she brings some solid placed form to the table.
