Sitting happily atop the betting we find Love, who picked up where she left off as a three-year-old with a hard-fought victory in the Prince Of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot. Aidan O'Brien's stable star should come on for her first outing of 2021 and the best performance of Love's career thus far came over this trip in the Epsom Oaks.

Sitting second is the shock winner of this year's Epsom Derby, Adayar. Charlie Appleby's colt ran out a convincing winner at Epsom, and the form of that race has been boosted since.

Frankie Dettori gave Lone Eagle a cracking ride in the Irish Derby last time out, but was run down in the final strides by Hurricane Lane. Martyn Meade has booked Dettori to take the ride again at Ascot, and he'll receive plenty of weight from the older horses around him in the market.

David Egan will again partner Mishriff, who looked like he needed the run when third on his return to Britain in the Coral-Eclipse. Wonderful Tonight beat Broome - the final two runners in the field - to win a red-hot Hardwicke Stakes last time out, despite David Menusier claiming his filly was only 75% fit.

Hurricane Lane and Bolshoi Ballet may have boosted the form of Adayar's Epsom Derby win, but I'm still not sure whether he's a solid proposition. Winners of the Derby have struggled to back that win up in recent seasons. Plus, all of Adayar's best form has come on good-to-soft or soft, so I'm not sure whether fast ground will suit.

The same can be said for Wonderful Tonight, who's done all her winning on genuinely soft ground. Frankie Dettori almost pinched the Irish Derby with a masterful ride from the front, but the chances of that coming off again are slim and Lone Eagle could be ripe for the picking come the closing stages of the race.

Mishriff saw out this trip well in the Sheema Classic and should come on plenty for that reappearance in the Coral Eclipse. Broome shouldn't be overlooked too quickly either, but I don't fancy backing either of them against LOVE.

A lack of early pace forced Ryan Moore to make the running in the Prince Of Wales's Stakes, a stark change of tactic to what we saw during Love's sparkling three-year-old campaign. Halfway down the straight, I was expecting Aidan O'Brien's returning filly to succumb to the pressure, but not a bit of it, Love was more than up to the task and comfortably held Audarya and Armory at arm's length.

On Saturday, Lone Eagle will give Ryan Moore's mount the fast early pace she craves and I can't see anyone being strong enough to repel Love's challenge when she takes over down the home straight.

Verdict

Love has now won four Group Ones in the bounce and she's sure to improve for her first outing at Royal Ascot. She'll take all the beating.
