2022 Lingfield Winter Million Preview - Full schedule and cards for this brand new three-day meeting

  • We look ahead to the inaugural Winter Million meeting at Lingfield
  • This three-day meeting kicks off on Friday 21st January

The first edition of the Winter Million meeting takes place at Lingfield on Friday afternoon, and racing fans have three thrilling days of racing to look forward to.

In a bid to boost prize money and bolster the competitive action leading up to the Cheltenham Festival, the Winter Millions meeting was created at Lingfield. On Friday and Sunday, two excellent jumps cards will be stages on the Lingfield turf, with Saturday's flat card being run on their Polytrack surface.

Here's a look at what we've got to look forward to this weekend and a few of the horses viewers are likely to see running on ITV Racing.

Friday's card kicks off with an intriguing Mares' Novices' Hurdle, before the mares take centre-stage in the first ITV race of the meeting, the Mares' Novices' Handicap Chase. Eclair D'Ainay, Il Ridoto and Frero Banbou could clash in the Racehorselotto.com Handicap Chase, before On The Blindside, Botos Hax, Emitom and Molly Ollys Wishes in the Winter Million Hurdle.

Threeunderthrufive could attempt to win his fourth race in a row in a competitive-looking Novices' Chase. Former Tolworth Hurdle winner, Metier could then square off again Gowel Road, Hunters Call and Emmet Mullins' raider Carrera in the final ITV race on the card, the Sovereign Handicap Hurdle.

The feature race on Saturday's flat card is the Coral Winter Oaks Fillies' Handicap, worth £100k in prize money. Ryan Moore has already been confirmed in the saddle of Harry and Roger Charlton's contender Umm Hurair, with Hollie Doyle set to partner Simon Dow's Arenas Del Tiempo.

Around the main event, viewers have five lucrative handicaps to enjoy. We'll also take in a fascinating novice stakes run over six furlongs, where Annaf, Al Ameen and Vespasian could attempt to claim their second victories under rules.

Five races will be shown live on ITV this Sunday, including the Surrey National Handicap Chase. Venetia Williams' Green Book, Dan Skelton's Ballygriffincottage and Paul Nicholls' Complete Unknown could lock horns in the first of Sunday's televised races, the Winter Million Novices' Hurdle

A classy field, including Faivoir, War Lord and Minella Drama could contest Sunday's Novices' Chase. Brewin'Upastorm then heads the entries for the Cheltenham Festival Betting Guide Hurdle, where he could square off against a pair of dangerous Irish raiders in Gavin Cromwell's Darver Star and Gordon Elliott's Saint Felicien.

The Fleur De Lys Chase headlines the Winter Millions Meeting. Joseph O'Brien's Melling Chase winner, Fakir D'Oudairies tops the ante-post betting, and could come up against three-time Betfair Chase hero Bristol De Mai, Olly Murphy's top chaser Itchy Feet, and Venetia Williams' progressive seven-year-old, Fanion D'Estruval.
