2020 Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Preview, Betting Predictions & Tips

Date: Saturday January 11, 2020
Track: Gold Coast
Distance: 1300m
Field Limit: 16 + 5 emergencies
Prize Money: $1 million

The Magic Millions Fillies & Mares might not be the most popular race on the card, but it's a $1 million race for a field which wouldn't otherwise be running for that kind of money.

A wide-open field has been presented for the 2020 edition where Manicure heads the betting, but there's a host of good betting opportunities in the race and we've picked out our best value chances.

With the likes of Problem Solver and Warranty at double-figure odds, punters will be targeting this race on Magic Millions Race Day, which also includes the 2YO Classic and 3YO Guineas.

2019 Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Field & Barrier Draw

Invincibella has come for specking in the betting following the barrier draw. The Chris Waller-trained mare received barrier three and current favourite and best bet Manicure secured a handy barrier of seven.

2019 Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Best Bet - Manicure @ 3.00

James Cummings lines up the four-year-old mare which has had three wins from seven starts, including a last start win in the Nudgee Stakes at Doomben.

The daughter of Exceed And Excel scored nicely by 1.5 lengths over stablemate Demerara and Warranty, which is good enough form to be considered the favourite for the Magic Millions Fillies & Mares.

She will come into this second-up and that can stop some good horses, but she boasts two Group placings in the PJ Bell Stakes (behind Houtzen) and the James Carr Stakes (behind Moss Trip). That's electric form for this race and there's value with her current odds.

2019 Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Best Each Way - Problem Solver @ 11.00

Gerald Ryan lines up the four-year-old mare which was a touch disappointing when fifth in the Christmas Classic on December 29, but that came behind Group 1-winning Alizee and a host of other good types.

Prior to that, Problem Solver was winning the Magic Millions 3&4YO Stakes at Wyong by 1.25 lengths over Bondi and Invincible Star. That form looks good for this and we're not overly sure why bookmakers are offering double-figure odds.

We're not complaining, however, and we suggest taking those odds as a saver bet at the worst.

2019 Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Best Roughie - Warranty @ 15.00

Warranty might not be the most consistent mare running in Australia but she improved nicely to run third behind Manicure last start and there's some value in her odds.

She has yet to score a notable win from 13 starts, but she has never been that far away from the Group types and she only needs a little more confidence.

The pace is there and as she suggested last start, she could run into the money at odds.

Best Bet: Manicure @ 3.00
Best Each Way: Problem Solver @ 11.00
Best Roughie: Warranty @ 15.00
