The Magic Millions is a thoroughbred racehorse auction which features both sales and a premier racing meeting in January.
Based in Queensland but with bases in Wyong and Adelaide, the Magic Millions Raceday has become one of the biggest carnivals in Australia in January each year.
Taking place at Gold Coast Racecourse, the Magic Millions Raceday is spearheaded by the 2YO Classic, which is a prominent reason to purchasing a juvenile at the sales.
First held in 1987, the Magic Millions is restricted to horses that were purchased only at Magic Millions sales and the prize money has continued to increase since its inception into the Australian racing calendar.
With two $2 million races on the card, punters from all around the world have tuned into the Gold Coast in January. Gold Coast isn’t a major track in Australia but some of the most promising horses run each year.
It acts as a main lead-up to the Golden Slipper and the double has been completed three times. Dance Hero, Phelan Ready and Capitalist have won the 2YO Classic before winning the Slipper later that season.
The Magic Millions 3YO Guineas is the other feature race on the programme.
In the last 1990s, the Magic Millions brand was almost bankrupt, but was saved by the likes of Gerry Harvey, John Singleton and Katie Page, all big names in the ownership and breeding sectors of Australian racing.
