The Coolmore Stud Stakes, formerly known as Ascot Vale Stakes, is the top three-year-old sprint race held during the Melbourne Cup Carnival.
With a purse of $1 million and some black type to be added to the page, many of Australia's best age-group sprinters compete down the Flemington straight on Derby Day in November.
Recent winners include Zoustar, Sepoy and Encosta De Lago, which all turned into top stallions and that's why the Coolmore Stud Stakes is a targeted race for owners and breeders.

Coolmore Stud Stakes history
The Coolmore Stud Stakes was originally run for two-year-olds from 1863 to 1965 and it was run on Australia Cup Day.
The move to Derby Day came in 2006 when the Coolmore Stud Stakes was taken out by champion sprinter Gold Edition.
Moving to the opening day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival was done to help the stallion prospects of the winner and many top stallions have come out of this race.
The move also resulted in an increase in prize money to $1 million and it's now one of the must-watch races down the Flemington straight.
The race is typically dominated by colts but fillies have had success in recent times. Nechita, Headway, Gold Edition and Alinghi were all fillies to win the Coolmore Stud Stakes.
Coolmore Stud Stakes betting guide
Four favourites have won the Coolmore Stud Stakes in the past 10 years and four have also failed to run in the first three placings.
Recent favourites to win have included Zoustar ($2), Sepoy ($1.30), Northern Meteor ($1.90) and Weekend Hussler ($1.75).
Favourites that have failed to place include Exosphere, Redoute's Choice and Snitzerland, which all went on to win at a high level.
Eight double-figure chances have won since 1983 so it's very much a favourites race with the favourite winning 12 of the last 35 editions.
Seven fillies have won since 1983 and six of those have won since 2000.
Champion trainer Chris Waller should be followed by punters. He has three wins from eight starters and jockey Damien Oliver has three wins from 19 rides.
The best barrier draws are eight and nine. Due to the race being run down the Flemington straight, drawing in the middle of the pack allows jockeys to decide which side of the track they want to run down.
The Coolmore Stud Stakes is often a split-race where runners either come along the inside rail or outside rail. Drawing barriers eight and nine means they can choose either side.
There has been only one winner from barriers seven and 10, with the inside barrier attributing to two winners since 1983.
